Boy I can relate to this, JoAnne. We had 14" of snow at our house yesterday and more last night. All schools and most state offices were closed and hope to reopen today. It is now 17* in our patio and forecasted high is 23*. Worse, there were 471 traffic accidents reported yesterday including an 11 car pile up on I-15!! Where is spring

Yes, winter can be a challenge. It's extremely easy to slip on ice and crash to the ground. What annoys me is idiots driving four-wheel-drive vehicles who think they can do anything on icy roads.

Some days are just good days to stay home, grab a good book, and wait for the sun to shine and the temps to rise to melt levels.

Driving home in the first snowstorm each year, I see SUV after SUV spun off the highway. After their first taste of wine storm driving, most people acclimate and learn to slow down. Last night's world news showed a series of accidents as they occurred and it was obvious the drivers were going much too fast for the conditions. I almost long for the days of my youth when roads were rarely plowed down to bare pavement, people put chains on their tires, slowed down and planned extra time to get to their destination.

I remember getting our first all wheel drive SUV for my wife in January, 2015. The first time I drove it I very nearly put it in the ditch accelerating on an on-ramp. I forgot that the front wheels don't steer when spinning.

After living with Winter for 67 years, Florida seems like it would be a good place to spend future Winters. But not year around. Maybe Colorado for Summers.......

Well Jerry Those SUV drivers can do anything, But stop.
They are getting a lesson here this morning, Rain =icy roads. I learned yrs. ago 4X4 doesn't keep you from getting stuck, it just gets you stuck in worse places, barring use of a little common sense. While moving to my new place I got my all wheel drive Explorer stuck in the mud,Brain Fart, I was lucky I had not been able to back up to the deck to load the trailer so pulling it out a couple of days later was not a big deal.Note to self stay out of the mud dummy!!!!
I'M in the city right now waiting for it to warm up just a little so I can drive back to the sticks. Then all I have to do is keep the Ice off my satellite dishes.sit back and and watch The Big River, (which about 50 yds below the house and is very small) become Big. No danger of flooding the house since it has a very large field to spread into and the house is about 40ft above the "river".

Well word is that we have snow on Haleakala. So many of our local people will be learning their safety driving in the snow again. We get snow about every 10 years. Hope everyone is being safe.
