Attaching Nikon 1 lenses to Nikon DSLR or the New Z6 or Z7

The flange distance from sensor to back of the lens on the Z6 is 16mm, the flange distance on the Nikon 1 V3 is 17mm. Now the sensor size of the V3 is 1” while the Z6 is full frame or 1.37795” requiring more distance for spreading the circle. Why couldn’t they make an adapter for Nikon 1 lenses to either DSLR or mirror-less cameras. Just a thought. Can anyone point out a flaw in the logic?

Probably because the circle that the Nikon 1 lenses project onto the image plane is far smaller than the 44MM diameter circle required to cover the full fame chip. The vignetting would no doubt be horrendous.

The image circle does get bigger as you move the lens away from the sensor but it would only focus at very close distance. Even then I don't think the image circle from the Nikon 1 lens would be sufficient to cover the FX sensor.

That sounds reasonable.

Nikon lenses work best on the Nikon 1 for reach because of the 2.7 crop factor. So a 300mm Nikon lens (either Nikon 1 lens or a Nikkor AFS lens with the Nikon FT-1 adapter) will create an 810mm equivalent focal length on the Nikon 1. Even if you could adapt it to a Z6, it would only have a 300mm equivlent focal length. Would be sort of pointless. Plus it would vignette at the wider f-stops.
