There are a lot of reasons viewership is going down in the NFL. Players getting away with kneeling during the Anthem, rule changes to protect players from getting hurt, but the main reason is...People are getting tired seeing the Patriots in the Super Bowl. You have seen major rule changes during the 70's by the NFL, no chucking the receiver 10 yards beyond the line of scrimmage, no head slapping by the defensive line just to name a few to bring parity in the game when the Steelers won their six Super Bowl titles. It worked to a certain extent with the Steelers, now the NFL is going to change more rules to keep the Patriots from being in the Super Bowl.

I do interior remodeling. The work that I do is infinatly longer lasting than the results of any pro sports game. these guys get paid millions to play a GAME. it's a GAME people. I ask you, what if anything is of any lasting value at the end of the game? Besides their bank accounts,is there any real tangable meaningful outcome to it all? Yeah,I know that they spend some of their money to build homes and such,But the absurdly inflated paychecks they get for what? The peopJust don't get it.le on the lower end of the economic food chain,I.E. the real workers of the world ,carpenters, plumbers, mechanics, etc. they are the ones who give us lasting
value for our money. not the cost of a ticket for 3 hours or your life. I don't get it, we have a really warped seance of value in this world. the real doers get squat as compaired to the players who get filthy rich for
some fleeting numbers on a scoreboard. I just don't get it.

People seldom remember what we DO. They remember us for how good or bad we make them FEEL. Right or wrong, fair or not, getting people emotionally high with excitement has always been worth big bucks. Sports, movies, music... The best in these entertainment fields are incredibly well paid because we support them with our attention and money.

Sports teams USUALLY make their fans happy when they win. Last night, however, was boring and lifeless for everyone but a few zealots in the Northeast.

Perhaps you do not speak for everyone. Perhaps the "zealots" reside elsewhere, under different premises. You sound like an elitist with such comments. What next, attack guns and bibles?
I dont give a dang about "feel good" namby pampyism, i care about RESULTS. I can assure you that i am not alone.

Neither one of those two teams should have been playing in that game. It's easy to berate the ref's when you are watching your hometown team. When you are just watching two teams play for the enjoyment of watching a game and you see so many things that should have been called or calls that were totally wrong and I'm not talking after watching a slo-mo replay, you have to start and wonder just how much the ref's can and do change the outcome. I also wonder how disturbing it must be when you are at a game and it's stopped for so long because it's time for 10 commercials on TV, I know that I'm not happy at home when that happens. It was so bad this year that we actually missed the first down play because a commercial wasn't finished! If I'm lucky maybe you all will continue to watch next year, I don't plan to, I will be doing a lot more photography on Sundays. After all it's just a game or so they say.

I quit watching once it became political. The millionaire players are a bunch of hypocrites, and should be grateful to those who served this country while they make millions playing a game.

Right on the money Cookie223.
It is too bad that political division has made sports and TV awards shows a platform for people to make their stupid comments and as a consequence fewer people watch them.

My/ our objection has been the modern concept that the studio presenters are the real stars, reporting on a mere event. I'd like to watch the event, not watch smarmy critics in an office with a green screen.
And yes I agree with the commercial problem. Interruptions is one thing, but replacing whole chunks with more commercials, skipping game plays, was just egregious. I stayed until after the halftime show, then changed the channel. Kitten bowl was cute for 5 minutes.
Another great example of these was KTLA's butchering the Rose Bowl parade. The B-1 Bomber making it's pass over the route is always impressive and inspiring to see. We got a stock footage clip as part of fade to intro and sponsor blurb. Oh, here comes an interesting float, and then the band my friend's kid is in, and !BAM! there's a giant burger on my screen. Finally, the show is back on. The float is gone, the band is gone, and the back end of some other float is disappearing. I used to be in a couple school bands. I've physically gone to this parade quite often. There's a judges area, where each participant stops, faces the judges, does a small bit, and moves on. ANY coverage of this was limited to seeing a half screen reporters face as he occasionally points that way, a half block away. Almost as if everyone else had gone for the day, and a few slow interns were left to do the job.
Next time, Legends Cup playoffs. Go Temptations!

Sports is nothing but a gambit that the Romans learned how to manipulate the masses with useless foolishness to get their minds off what they are doing as politicians. Politicians have learned that lessen well. Tell me what season isn't full of masses of useless sports?

It has nothing to do with politics you say? Why are the pro players playing in arenas, that are paid by public funds. Who authorized and allowed public funds to be spent on those expensive arena paid by the taxpayer? Your politicians! Who re

If big sports brings in lots of money to pay the players over $10.000.000 each why do they need public funds to build the arena with taxpayer's money? You know very well that the owners are making plenty themselves to be paying lowly players that kind of money. Who reaps the benefit of the profits from the arena. In Buffalo NY it is the football team owner, even when an event goes on there that has nothing to do with football. In the summer they held concerts there and it was the football owner who got the stadium profit, not th public or county that built it -the football owner got it.

Exchange football for gladiators and the Romans knew how to control the masses. It is nothing but a sham!

The New Stadium being built by Private Investors in Los Angeles is going to cost over 5 billion and will receive huge tax breaks and incentives. The 5 billion can be easily invested in entertainment, A big wall with seats inside.
