I'm a complete beginner and have just been given a Lumix TZ80. I really want to get to grips with night shots and wildlife, so looking forward to learning new skills and moving on from point and click.

Welcome. Google and You Tube are your friends. You will be able to learn a lot with You Tube, and the lessons are live action, so sometimes easier to follow.
Welcome! Ditto on Google and Youtube. Also try out the Help link here at the right top of this page to learn how to navigate this forum. Lots of sub-forums on specic types of photography as well as a wealth of info from all of the members.
Welcome to the forum. Click away and ask for critiques. You'll learn from advice plus by shooting.

Lizzy welcome to the forum and enjoy your Lumix TZ80. Post images and ask questions. Most important is to have fun creating images.
Welcome to the forum Lizzy.
Hi Lizzy, I have the previous model (TZ70) I use it as a second camera, it will be worth your while to experiment with the various settings especially SCN and ART. Take an identical photograph using each setting and compare the images. I like to use SCN (Landscape), although at first if you taking a serious photograph use iAuto until you are happy to try any other methods. Finally, I set my zoom at 50mm for a normal angle and go back or forward from there to obtain the ideal angle.
Happy shooting.
John.
