2 February 1900 – Today in History – Eastman Kodak Company introduced the 1 dollar "Brownie Box Camera".
I read an article about this camera, some years ago, but they never posted a picturre of it. Before 1900, the working class could afford to payfor each photo taken. Usually at a studio..Kodak made this for the working class. In order to do more than one photo, on your behalf. It sold well, according to that article I read. Thanks for posting this. Here's another article.

In 1930 they gave away Brownie cameras to every child who turned 12. My Mom was one of those and now I have it.

My dad had one and gave it to me when I was 6 or 7. I really enjoyed it and for Christmas about a year later I was given a 110 Instamatic. I've often wondered what happened to that old box camera.
If I were to follow the Konmari philosophy of thanking an object for it's service, I would definitely thank that old box camera for being the camera to start me on my photographic journey.

And this was (well, a later version) was the first camera Ansel Adams got in 1916 when he was 14.

Thanks for sharing this old ad. I started out with a Brownie Hawkeye in 1949.

I had one similar to that when I was knee high to a duck. Not sure if it was a Kodak Brownie. It's sitting up at my dad's now.
How many memory card slots did it have?
I never used or owned any of the Brownie.

LOL! Would that be SD or Compact Flash? Thanks for the chuckle!

I believe some of those have built in card and not removable by user. I think some of those came preloaded with film and you send the camera to Kodak for processing and reload.
