Can anyone explain why this camera Canon G7X takes seconds before you can take another picture
this is most annoying you miss a lot of shots. What pock and shoot camera would be best to replace the Canon I have presently.

Check and see how long your preview is set. Also, try resetting to factory pre-sets. Going back to zero helps me in trying to isolate and glitch.

Also check your battery; it could be near the end of its useful life.

I moved from a G12 to the G7X because of the annoying shutter lag on the G12. The G7X fires instantly and works fine on multiple shots and video. Try the recommendations previously offered and, if you have a local camera store give them a try. I am an advocate of local stores (not big box) as the advice is usually spot on and having a relationship with a pro is beneficial to all. I don't mind paying a little more (not always the case) for personalized service.
Good luck!

I have one and really like it as a small carry around camera.
One thing I have done inadvertently a few times is alter setting cause of its touch screen.
I now disable the touch screen and set it back to factory settings as noted above.

It takes really nice pics for a small package.

Like a few posters who have already chimed in, I’m thinking you have a setting issue askew somewhere. I suggest either looking at each carefully and think about what they do OR reset and start over.

Since the G7X is mirrorless and you can already see what your image is going to look like before you press the shutter release, why not turn off the instant image review feature? That way you don't have to wait until it clears the screen before you can take another picture. I've done that on my G16 and Sony A6300.

I have a G9x. When you press the shutter release half way down it clears the screen and you're ready for the next shot. Perhaps the suggestion to turn off image review would speed things up a little. I'll experiment but I think I like the ability to review the previous shot if desired.

Any of my cameras immediately drop the preview if I press the shutter button. If you have activated some strange style, it might take a little processing time before it can take another shot.
