Hi! My name is Jim. I recently received a Canon 80D camera and have no idea how to use it. I do have a little background in art. I draw photo-realistic portraits so I thought it would be nice to learn how to shoot really detailed portraits. I get a lot of crappy reference photos to draw from and would like to be able to shoot my own reference photos. Hope this place can help me out with it. Here's a pic one of my drawings.

Cheer!

Charge the battery, mount the lens, set the camera to Auto and start shooting. When you have questions, research in the manual. Your first question might be how to get the images off the camera. You'll be well on your way quickly. Welcome aboard!

Jim back in the 50s I was and art like you. I took some home glass, one was with N. Rockwell he told me to photograph then paint or draw it. Best place to learn photography is youtube. IF I had it back then I would be a $100,000,000,000. and this form helps big time. And if I can help in any email me otxjcom@aol.com I'm 80 I need to pass this on to some one. Your drawing looks great its one of the things I started doing, mine was movie star. Could not get it with oils, pencil. So like you I got in photography. I an no pro but I get it done as you will. anGODbless

Welcome! Fabulous drawing. If you do half as well in photography as you do in drawing you will be on your way.

Thanks for everyone's response. I have been watching Youtube all day due to the extremely cold temperature. I also purchased the "How to Create Stunning Digital Photography" book. I suppose I could start by learning how to take indoor photos for now.
