Also, Asheville and the Biltmore Estate - the largest single residence in the US. The place and the landscaped grounds are just amazing. Their Christmas decorating is a real show, but it is growded. I have been there twice and will go again. A spring visit when all the trees and flowers are blooming has got to be awesome. Everything is meticulously maintained. Everthing in the mansion is original as built.

Great recommendation Dave....but Asheville is in western NC, not SC.

I didn't realize that Greenville SC and Ashville NC were about an hour apart by car. I thought they were much further apart. Thanks for the education.

And for that matter, while Asheville is a cool city, there are a ton of fantastic landscape opportunities along the way between there and Greenville. Don't forget Chimney Rock and Lake Lure or the BR Parkway south of the city.

Hatcher Garden and the grounds at Milliken in Spartanburg are also nice. Downtown Spartanburg has some cool urban settings/murals etc.
