As you begin to adventure around South Carolina, visit the historic state capital in Columbia, about a 90-minute one-way trip.

You absolutely have to do Charleston, Hunter Island, Paris Island, Hilton Head and the Low country.

Also, Asheville and the Biltmore Estate - the largest single residence in the US. The place and the landscaped grounds are just amazing. Their Christmas decorating is a real show, but it is growded. I have been there twice and will go again. A spring visit when all the trees and flowers are blooming has got to be awesome. Everything is meticulously maintained. Everthing in the mansion is original as built.

Campbells Bridge is the only covered bridge left in South Carolina. It is only about 40min from you. Table Rock SP and Caesars Head SP are, also, close by. When spring starts to liven-up the countryside, be sure to visit them.

You might want to place Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the Blue Ridge Parkway on you list. They are not that far away. There are also many beautiful wayerfalls in western South Carolina and Western North Carolina.

For the last 10 years, I have lived in Greenville. Depending upon what you like to shoot, there is downtown in the evening, waterfalls abound in both SC and western NC. The various national forests have some beautiful areas. Table Rock SP at the lake is very photogenic. For flowers and an old cabin the SC Botanical Gardens at Clemson. Further afield for wading birds is Huntington Beach SP.

Just a quick sample.

If you face west you will see the mountains. Take a drive and you will see all sorts of places with beautiful scenery. Go up to Asheville and over the Blue Ridge Parkway. Go up to Mount Mitchell. This should supply you with photo opportunities for the next 50 years or so. Lake Lure and Chimney Rock offer great scenery.

Isn't there a place called "Twin Falls" that may not be on a map, but the locals know?

Two more great places for photos are the zoo and gardens in Columbia. Gardens bloom a little earlier than most due to the sandy soil and warmer temps so check the web for best time to visit. Greenville downtown area has some beautiful area with the river and the circular bridge along with the tree lined main street. Also a small zoo.

Be sure you visit Brook Green Gardens. It's about 20 miles south of Myrtle Beach, and a little south of Huntington State Park On Rt 17. Also, if you go to Charleston, Georgetown is only about 20 miles further south on Rt 17. Plan several hours visiting Brook Green Garden.
