We visited a number of glaciers while in Iceland. It was sad to see how much they had melted since the 3 years since I had been there before. At this glacier, the pieces that break off end up in a lagoon, then float through a channel, and end up in the ocean. The waves from the ocean then push the pieces of ice back up onto the black sand beach. Sometimes the area is called diamond beach, because the ice looks like huge diamonds against the black sand.
Loved the photos, where exactly in Iceland was the location??? I may return and would love to be able to see this...

it is the Jokulsaron Lagoon---I think the beach might have the same name. The beach is right across the road from the lagoon and it is in the southern part of the island
