Turning off the pop up flash on a Nikon D5300

Can anyone tell me how to turn off the pop up flash on this camera. Shoot the majority of time in the auto mode. Thank you.

You can't disable the flash in the full Auto mode, but you should have another mode that is Auto without flash. Check your manual.

Right below the auto mode indicator dial is the flash disable (off mode) rotate the dial to this position to turn the flash off.

The first time I turned the D70s on the flash popped up. I almost trashed the camera.

Use P(rogram) mode instead of Auto. There you can change flash-use settings and lots of others. P takes a lot of the dumbness out of things and gives ability to make adjustments. If you only use Auto you're wasting you're camera.

And you don’t need to disable the flash. It won’t pop up unless you press the flash button. Program mode is a good way to get off Auto.
