Yeah Barry, it looks to me like a blue wooden warbler, which I understand are common in your neck of the woods. I've never seen one here in Connecticut.

Sorry... that's not it. After people have had a chance at it... I'll name it. But I will ask my daughter... in Norwalk... if she's seen one.

It appears to be a Nailbeaked Plummeter. They only fly for a few seconds before landing head first... :-D

I believe its a gilliegallow bird. Rare because of its habit of flying in ever diminishing circles until it disappears up its own rear orifice.

Immature Rusty-rumped Plierhead. As they age, the adults develop the rusty rumps and beaks. The bright yellow eye-rings mark it as the Carolina sub-species. Seldom seen--nice capture!

I should add that the Plierheads (along with some cousins like the Long-backed Gearbottoms, the Two-toed Wrenchfeet and the Peg-faced Socketheads) are known for their habit of nesting in boxes of old tools, where they amazingly take on the coloration of the rusty tools. Which I guess accounts for the fact that they tend not to be noticed and sometimes get shut up in the box for years. Their empty eggshells are sometimes misidentified as ratchet sockets, but can be identified by the fact that they never fit any ratchet wrench.

Too bad this is a rear end shot. I'm not very good at IDing butt shots.

It's the often called the Oh$hit tool. That's the one that you need to complete the job that you were hired to do and you will not get paid unless you propperly complete the task. Whem you realize that the Oh$hit tool is missing you shout Oh$HIT
