I have one. It's sitting on a shelf somewhere and it's likely to stay there.

I'm not trying to be nasty or anything like that but why did you buy one just to have it set on the shelf?

If you had availed yourself of UHH's Search function, you wouldn't have had to ask the questions.

Since most of the info is several months old I thought I'd see what the current thought was.
Perhaps if you didn't have anything positive to way it might have been best to say nothing at all.

Perhaps.

Have you learned anything about the Arsenal here on UHH that has either convinced you to buy one, or convinced you that you don't want or need one?

I did and I did buy and receive one on Kickstarter. My reason for buying was NOT to automate my camera shot settings (I always shoot fully Manual) but to take advantage of some other features. For example, being able to control settings manually from a smartphone and view image before and after a shot in a considerably larger size, ability to set multiple focus points, time lapse, stacking, etc. In terms of these, it worked as advertised. However, I am a minimalist person and only like to carry the absolute essentials and have been finding myself not to use the Arsenal in spite of the aforementioned advantages. I would be willing to part with it. If interested, feel free to PM.

I am interested in some of the features but not enough to buy. I accomplished what I set out to do which was see what this august body of folk thought or had learned.

When it comes to tech I harken back to something my father (who was VP IT for a major F500) company used to say. it's the early Christian who gets the hungry lion. From some of the FB posts there appear to be significant lions roaming around.

In computers and note pads my family were early adopters...with phones not so much. My highly tech savvy daughter calls me a troglodyte when it come to using the "features" of my smart phone. Texting and messaging ok. Anything else including photo not so much. It does make a nice I-Pod.

I'll pass for now.

Photography IS the experience. Holding a camera steady so the robot can make an image for you is the same as buying a print someone else made in a store. If all you want is an image, find one you like, buy it and stay home and look at it. The experience is why I am a photographer. It's just like a road trip, the experience is the trip, not where you go.

I asked the same question about a month ago and received some similar answers although not as many. I only wanted the thing for one operation and am still questioning if the price is worth having it for that one feature. I wanted to use it for focus stacking. I know there are programs that are available to do that in post but to do it in camera would be excellent!

I'm not a control freak, unless it has to do with my photography! I'm the photographer. If I succeed in my shot, it's because I'm a great photographer. If I fail, it's because I have a lousy camera! I still want to be in control of my camera controls.

UPDATE:

I guess I'm not going there yet! I just read an update from the creator's blog about the stacking. It said the stacking was accomplished in the phone image, but they weren't able to send a stacked image to the SD card yet! Without that feature it would not pay for me to own one.

Per the promo brochure it says it does.
Stacking simply is taking multiple photos and merging them together to capture detail that is lost in a single exposure. Arsenal makes stacking easy. It can take the optimal number of photos at the right settings, then merge the photos to a new RAW or JPG file.* The new file is seamlessly written back to the camera SD card.

* Merged RAW files are saved as 16 bit DNG's

I sure as heck wouldn't have my brochure state something I "hoped" to accomplish one day.

This is from a blog by Ryan -- one of the developers of Arsenal. I don't know who wrote the brochure, but not everyone in the company seems to be on the same page. Said it worked on some cameras! I'll wait for the real device not some Beta version that is still having kinks worked out.

"After that, we’re focused on saving stacked images back to the SD card. Users can currently share a JPEG image from their mobile app, but the final stacked image is not available on the SD card. We are hoping to add this to all cameras; on some it has worked smoothly, but on others we are still working on solutions and doing more testing." This was from Jan. 4th. so pretty current state of the matter.

I like gadgets. I can afford to like gadgets and I am curious about technology. When I die my kids and grandkids will have a hoot trying to figure out all my junk. And, yes, you were sorta nasty but that's okay.
