Between 30 minutes Before Sunrise to about 30 minutes after.

Then - 30 minutes Before Sunset to about One Hour After.

This is my take on this - As with other photographers, this may vary.

When on location - Sometimes I am camped about 45 miles from where I want to be at sunrise or sunset - of course, I must take into account the travel time.

That same golden hour happens in the evening as well. About 1 hour before sunset or 1 hour after PS--I like the flare in the sunrise

Thank you, you have some beautiful pictures too. I have a sunrise that I took last summer with the fire in the sky a lot like that.

These are quite nice. As mentioned in a prior post here, 1/2 after sunrise and 1/2 hour before sunset. Those times can be expanded depending on circumstances.

Somehow, "golden hour" and B&W don't go together in my mind. Of course, my mind may be getting, er, not as, uh, sharp as it once was.

Here is a great site to use for calculating the golden hour for any place in the world. It also tells you which direction the sun and moon will be rising and setting. Since you can get down to street level, I used it to determine the exact position to be in to capture a super moon rising beside a local bell tower.

Great shot, usually it means the time when the sun drops below 20 degrees on the horizon and the lights start turning warmer and warmer, loosing it's harsh quality, providing a much softer/almost romantic quality of light!

Golden hour is just that, and nothing shows it off as good as a sunrise or sunset. Thanks for all the great comments.

I appreciated the fact that you admitted that you did not crop. However, was the image processed?

Nothing was done to the image except turning it into a jpeg file.

Yep, you found it. But don't be afraid to turn around. During Golden Hour the sun does amazing things to objects in the landscape behind you, too.
