So it's a continuation of the a6000, a6300 family, with Sony's typical price increase.

A step back from the a6500 it seems, but that one is selling for $1299 body only. And a step up from the a6300 that is selling for $749 body only.
Personally it seems a bit pointless to me to add another 24MP model between those two 24MP bodies, but I am not a Sony marketing expert.

Although the name suggests a step back some of the features are rumored to be better. We'll find out when the camera hits the shelf.

Also since it is designated A6400 it may indicated a top level APS-C might follow.

Maybe the step up from the A6300 to the A6400 means the addition of a touchscreen interface. That would be a good thing.

I wonder will Nikon go back from the D7500, and create a newer version of the D7200. And have dual SD slots again. Probably not. Sony went from the a6000 to the a6300, and finally the a6500. Very quickly too. This new a6400 that is listed to be priced at $900, body only, is indeed affordable. It could be a big seller.

The main new feature is the flip up screen. If you're interested in vlogging i.e. seeing yourself as you shoot it would be a good choice. Otherwise it brings very little to the table

Yes, saw three articles on this camera yesterday and Adorama announced it yesterday also.
Sony is the KING of new releases. They are very good at adding new internal electronics, changing this or that, and calling it new (not a complaint) . Again, no camera company produces more models or introduces new products faster than Sony. Just sayin.

One of the reasons I spent the money and went with the a6500 is the in camera stabilization. Doesn't look like the a6400 has it.

The new a6400 with the 18-135 lens is a great deal at around $1150 (Amazon price). B&H price is $1298 with the 18-135. I use that lens on an A6000 and love it. My only question on the new a6400 is "Have they improved the battery and the battery usage?" It would be nice to be able to go out on an all-day shoot using only ONE battery. That is my only complaint on the Sony line.

When I shoot live view on my Nikon it also eats batteries. If you shut the rear screen down on the Sony, does that help. You also have an Electronic Viewfinder, in other words, you are viewing an electronic image of the real image, I believe that also eats up batteries. On my Nikon I am viewing the image using a mirror, very little electronics needs.

The new camera seems to be an A6300 with a flip-up screen and faster autofocusing - really, the upgrades are for the video bloggers. I see little to benefit still photographers above the 6300.

I went to the A6500 once I found out just how good the built in stabilization helps my old hands. I am very pleased with it.
