No longer called the Tapan Zee Bridge. It is now named after the wonderful Governor of NY.

I was also there (Flywheel Park). Froze my butt off, but got some great shots. Turned away at the wrong moment (Someone asked a question) and missed the flash of the explosives. Got the rest (continuous exposure, 'ya 'gotta love digital).

Nice. I haven't driven over that in a couple of years. I'll have to take a look at the new Tappan Zee Bridge. Yes, that's my name for it.

With as much traffic as the bridge gets they should have let both stand and use them.

It was the Tappan Zee Bridge when I moved to Rockland 42 years ago, and to me it will always be the Tappan Zee Bridge!

Couldn't count the number of times I went over it by car and under it by boat. Kind of sad to see it go.

Nice shots!

Agree.
I don’t have a problem with naming things after people but I think it’s disrespectful to change the name. In this case, the The Malcolm Wilson Tappan Zee Bridge was named for longtime New York Assemblyman and Lieutenant Governor Malcolm Wilson. Wilson also served as Governor for one year when Nelson Rockefeller resigned. They could have found something else to bear Cuomo’s name.

If I did not know that it was the old bridge in front of the new bridge, I would have expected a gap forming in the new bridge when the charges went off.

Wish the powers-that-were would have repurposed the old bridge into a "walking" bridge for pedestrians with maybe a bicycle path. I know that the height of the span was a consideration.

PS., Have driven over it a few times over a decade ago.

The Tap was a favorite site for suicide attempts and I think that might be one of the reasons the walking bridge didn’t pan out. If people were ok with stopping their cars on the bridge to jump, walking would just make it easier.
