No mention of IBIS. Seems to be a tweek on the A6000 / A6300 instead of the A6500 with some focusing and video enhancements.

Also new firmware upgrade for A9, A7R iii and A7Riii

I am a Sony user but not sure why they did NOT include the 5-x stabilization of the a6500. It is like the a6300 and a6000 using only in lens stabilization at only $200 difference between the a6500 and a6400. I would opt for the a6500. I don't see the value.

I've had the A6000 and currently have the A6300. I'm not sure I see the point of the soon to come A6400. If I were in the market to do so, I'd just go for the A6500. I don't have any firm evidence for saying so, but it seems to me that the A6500 would be the better value.

I see that "Mirrorless Comparison" is suggesting that the a6400 is actually designed for the a5100 market (and user).

"The previous Sony model to specifically target this user-base was the a5100, which was released over four years ago in mid-2014. "

Firmware so quickly on the Sony a6400? There was a quick firmware after the a6300 was released, to quell the overheating problem on video mode.

The A6400 was announced by Sony Jan 15 @ 2 pm. Everything before that was speculation and most of the speculation was centered on an upgrade to the A6500 or an APSC version of the A7iii. I don’t think the A6400 was what folks were expecting so there appears to be some disappointment. However I wouldn’t be surprised if they come out with something to meet the higher expectations before the end of the year.

Yeah!!! Improved eye AF with animal eye AF now a reality. This will be huge with many of those on the fence of which system to go with (Canon, Nikon, Fuji, etc). If you like shooting animals the choice is almost a no brainer. I'm so pleased I can add this feature to my a7III at no cost (I was prepared for Sony to incorporate this into a new high end camera like the A7000).

You can be sure Sony will introduce new models. Sony has the reputation of bringing out new models more times in a year than the number of pigs in a litter. And that's saying something.
Sony also offers more camera models than any other camera manufacture. And, unlike other camera manufactures, they continue to make older models. A prime example is the Sony RX100 series, you can still get the I, II, III, IV, and V versions of this camera, and the new VI. Again, Sony is determined to dominate the market in every facet of digital camera manufacture.

Sony will still sell the A6500 with its IBIS. The A6400 is the new entry-level APS-C for vloggers. With all the new focusing and AI tech in that A6400 and a flip up screen for $900, they had to leave out something, and that was the IBIS. There are many Sony APS-C lenses available with OSS (Optical Steady Shot) lens stabilization like the 10-18mm f4 and 18-105mm f4, both would be great for vlogging. The upcoming A7000 will be the new top-of-the-line Sony Pro-level APS-C camera with IBIS and many A9 features and 4k/60p video. Expect its announcement at WPPI in February or NAB in spring.

Maybe old to you, but I only noticed it for the first time today. Doesn't matter...old or new...it's GREAT news as far as I'm concerned. I was worried I'd have to buy an entirely new camera to get animal eye autofocus. Now just have a free upgrade coming. Big advantage of eye focus over Nikon, hey Bill?

OK, now that animal eye AF sounds good.
