I used to have a 5 watt army surplus 'targetting' laser; it was downright dangerous... cameras or eyeballs... would burn a track on your retina in an instant 'just in passing'.

I've seen articles with photos where people have taken pictures in a club with lasers floating around.
Puts permanent burn lines on the sensor. Occurs mostly with video as the chances of the laser hitting the front of the camera are increased.

LiDAR is a common emitter for self-driving vehicles and will be more common in future. You and your camera can be exposed, not realising you are.
