What a very clever solution. I was given a crystal ball (without the fortune teller) last year but have not gotten around to taking photos with it. Your really cool invention encourages me to give it a whirl.

Looks like you had some fun solving a problem! Thanks also for the info (cameral info etc.), most leave that out.

Thanks for the link to the Lensball holder, as I live with a sailor, not a woodworker.

Amazon sells it for $11.99 and with Prime there is no shipping charge.

I like my crystal ball, but holding it and a gripped camera made it cumbersome. An iPhone was an option, but not as fun.

With my lightweight travel tripod this will make everything easier.

I have seen some pictures taken with a crystal ball so I decided to purchase one for myself. I noticed that most of the pictures taken with the crystal ball is being hand held and the hand is also in the pictures. I decided to try a different approach. Since I am also a woodworker (you can check out some of my work from a previous post) I decided to make a holder for the ball and camera as you can see from the pictures below. The ball holder itself is made from a 16 oz. water bottle cut off about 1 1/2 inches from the top. The cap is mounted in a hole drilled out so that it would be flush with the frame and screwed in place so the top could be removed if needed. I also made a bracket for the bottom to mount on a tripod using my gimbal head. it is made long enough to give some adjustment when mounting for the weight distribution. I included a grip so it can also be used handheld. A hole underneath the camera allows access to a mounting screw for the camera. Once the camera and the ball are mounted, you can adjust your focus on the ball and everything that you aim it at will be in focus since you focus on the object in the ball instead of the original object. All you have to do is aim and shoot. Now to get out and take some pictures. From the sample photos I took in the back yard it looks like it will work great but I need some more interesting things to photo to be sure.
I have seen some pictures taken with a crystal bal... (show quote)

A very useful gadget and neatly done. I want to express my gratitude for the quality of your comprehensive post, not because I'm interested in stealing your idea but because I have grown weary of all the posts that are barely more than an unintelligible grunt. Thank you.

amazing! I love woodworks of any kind. IF I had been a boy, I think that would have been my chosen trade.

I can't imagine why you can't start right now, as a girl. Go for it. You have nothing to lose.

Great idea and great photos. I do some buying and selling on various sites. One thing that always turns me off is seeing someone's hand holding the item for sale, no matter whether the item is a camera lens, camera, knife, firearm or whatever. There is absolutely no reason to have a hand or fingers in a photo holding onto the item. I can always find a way to have the item held up on its own.

Thanks. I am not smart enough to talk above any ones head. It is a southern thing.

Thanks but I don't intend to make for sale. If there is any one interested in producing for any of our members you have my permission to use or modify the design. For me to do it would interfere with my camping, kayaking, fishing, woodworking, photography and all the other things you do in retirement.

Being from Arkansas, I get that but you could have done like a lot do and condensed this entire post to, "I made a ball holder," and posted no pictures. You've shown courtesy and left nothing to the imagination, totally effective communication, just as it should be. Cryptic, non-explanatory efforts should only be reserved for people who must type with a pencil between their teeth, IMHO. Thank you.
