Run away as fast as you can from them. Bait and switch, strip camera and sell you the parts as an option like the battery and charger that the manufacturer supplies. The bad part is they sell grey market stuff that the manufacturer will not service.

Stick with B&H or Adorama.

Never tried them. Don't need them.
I checked the web site. Everything
about it says "stay away".

Why is it always B&H or Adorama?! To hear the UHH rank and file tell it, there's only two legit photographic equipment stores in the whole USA and they are both in New York. Well, that's not true at all in the least. There are dozens upon dozens of quality legit camera dealers in this country. All you need to do to find them is go to the camera manufacturers web site and look for the listing of all their authorized dealers.
I'm not saying there's anything wrong with B&H or Adorama, I've purchased from both. But I don't live near them and sometimes it's nice to walk into the actual store and talk to an actual person and hold an actual piece of gear in the hands.
Something that's hard to do if one doesn't live relatively close to NYC.
Another good place to look for cameras is, believe it or not, Best Buy. At least certain Best Buy stores have an excellent selection of cameras from all the big names. I for one an lucky to live near enough to the Best Buy in north Delaware. Not only do they have a really good selection of Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Panasonic, Sony and many other manufacturers, they, Delaware, don't have a sales tax.

Unless it's local to you and you can go there why even consider? If you buy online, there are many reputable stores to buy from why even consider?

Members have always encouraged patronage of our local "brick and mortar" camera stores. But sadly these are getting to be few and far between. There are quite a few regional stores that members support in some of the big cities. But if you don't have one near you, it is better to buy from a place you trust. Members also often support the use of Costco for package deals for beginners.

There is nothing "bad" about grey market cameras etc. They are produced in authorized plants using OEM parts. As you say Adorama and B&H would be better choices.

And also Beach Camera in New Jersey. Have purchased from them as well as from Adorama and B&H. I live in NY so I don't have to pay tax if purchasing from Beach. All three companies have fantastic help staff! Beach has a 45-day return policy. Hope this helps! Linda

You are quite right about other stores selling cameras. I have been in Best Buy. I think the level of customer service, knowledge and inventory is the reason B&H and Adorama are so well touted. I would rather pay the sales tax and be assured I have what I need.

Check out Hoyer’s photo in Williamsport, PA. Can and will sell for same price as B&H and Adorama. Does repairs and printing. A wealth of knowledge.

I have not dealt with Tri-State in years , long time ago they were a good dealer but now I'd be careful, easier for me though I can go to the store not deal by mail, I'd probably just head to B&H though, Bob.
