Tamron lenses tend to be the same price everywhere and don't get taken by a bunch of extra junk you don't need in "packages". Looks the the price right now is $649. If you are near a camera store, get it there as it's easy to return if needed. Now, you might be able to save yourself about 20% buying used if you can find one in excellent condition. BTW, had mine for a while now and am very pleased with it.

I bought the Tamron 18-400 about 6 months ago and love this lens. I replaced the 18-270 and the newer one seems to be sharper and just terrific. They have a special on where there's $50 off the price and if you go to a camera store you can get a trade in credit for your old lens. i got $100 so i saved $150 total. Well worth it.

I got this lens about a year ago for a trip to Alaska. I checked it out at Midwest Photo first in Columbus and they had it for $649 + tax. I then got it on Amazon for $649 + no tax and free shipping. Absolutely love the lens (in fact it's on my camera now).

While I purchase from Authorized Tamron Dealers online, you can find a dealer near you:

Be careful buying a Tamron lens from Amazon.I bought the 24-70 from then,I could not get the information I needed from them to register the lens and get the warranty.I call them many times about this, they would send me the invoice with out the serial number of the lens.I finally gave up after several attempts.Fingers crossed nothing happens with the lens. My bad I usually use B&H or Adorama with no problems.Lesson learned .

I drove 90 miles to the closest camera store to check out the 18-400...got them to match on line prices with the Tap In Console...but was $50 higher due to taxes. The deal breaker for me was their return policy...10 days for in-store credit only. Went home and ordered it from Adorama. I'm in the process of doing the 'Tap In' focus adjustment...a real trick. Hoping to give it a good field test today.

Was the sales tax really a deal breaker, especially since you were already in the store?
Where will you go to check out equipment when they go out of business?

Folks like you are the first to complain when their LCS goes out of business. You realize that you are legally liable for paying the sales tax on your tax return? Also, the Ohio department of taxation monitors sites like this to catch tax dodgers.
