I didn't mention it with the macular degeneration but I also have multiple myeloma. That is a cancer with no known cure yet. When I had my stem cell transplant two years ago they said it was good for about four years. So I guess we just go with what God gives us. So far it hasn't been too bad, there are some bad days but more good than bad. I think I would I would go ahead and buy the camera and lens. You never really know how things will turn out. There may be a cure tomorrow. Good luck and I'll say a prayer for you.

I was feeling a little down because I have macular degeneration in my left eye. Hasn't really affected my shooting yet. Your comments just point out that you can't feel sorry for yourself because there's always someone who may be worse off. Hope your situation improves enough that you can continue to enjoy the hobby.
Learned long time ago to just deal withn “stuff” you can’t change. Coping is the operative word. Thanks.

Dry type in right eye - no treatment available. Wet type struck about 15 yrs ago - take frequent shots directly in the eyeball. What a treat!

Good ideas, but my hoa has extremely restrictive covenants regarding what owners can do outside. Thanks.

Glad to hear you’re improving, Dean, and nice to have you back. You’re a real gentleman and a welcome addition to UHH. Photography helps me face my medical challeges and I hope it does the same for you.

Welcome back, Dean. My MIL developed macular degeneration at age 85 but didn't have extra treatment and her vision narrowed over the next six years. Having diabetes, I am at higher risk as I age. If the rest of my organs don't fail me I suspect my eyes will sooner or later. Your post gives me hope that I'll be able to participate in photography for awhile and adapt if and when my eyesight goes bad.
Looking forward to any wisdom you impart, hopefully many years from now.
MD seems impervious to curative treatment. I urge younger folk to use any of a variety of eye vitamins, such as Preservision, et al. Once it sets in, there is little you can do at that point. It typically slowly progresses until vision is severly impaired. I have both dry (no central vision) and wet (fluid and swelling). Those of us with wet typically are treated with one of three cancer drugs directly injected into the affected eyeball. No fun there.
You mentioned diabetes, which is another of my many treatable, but not curable, diseases. I came back from Viet Nam in ‘68 with damn nearly ecery condition associated with Agent Orange. VA finally just threw up their hands and awarded me 100o/o disability pay. Copeing is my life style.
Thanks for your thoughts.
