As I've said before, I've had considerable trouble with FedEx, but UPS and USPS have been fine. About a month ago, I received a package from FedEx, and I had to sign for it. The guy had me spell my first and last names so he could enter them into his handheld device. When I opened the package, it was for stuff I hadn't ordered. Looking at the address label, I saw that it was for my neighbor - different house number and different name.

A couple of days ago, FedEx left a note on my door - unable to deliver; need signature. Yesterday, the same guy arrived and had me spell my names as he entered them into his device. I brought the box inside and checked the label - for my neighbor again. Aside from the label, the street address was written on the box with Magic Marker - large. Don't these people have to be able to read?

I guess the good thing is, you can check through the package to see if there is anything that you want.
I hate when vendors sell and ship items with a signature required WITHOUT telling you so. I come home from work and find the little tags hanging on the door.

I this case, they probably told my neighbor.

I didn't feel like bringing it over late yesterday, so I'll have to go over today.

Call FedEx. Make them redeliver it.

Look at the box, READ the address before you sign for it.

2 ways to solve your problem.

At least I read the label before I opened it this time.

I made a note on my calendar to put a note on the door next month for FedEx.

Unrelated - sort of. The local ambulance just came to my door. They got a call about someone who fell. It was the guy next door. Odd. I don't know if the ambulance is taking him away, but I'm stuck with the package now. I don't want to leave it on his doorstep while he's in the hospital. Sounds like calling FedEx is a good idea.

The ambulance is still there, so I left the package by the front door. Now I'll call his daughter and let her know.

Why should Jerry have to solve the problem? FedX needs to hire intelligent people.

Jerry, you may want to check the house number from the street to make sure someone has not had fun switching numbers. Outside chance but possible!

I actually did check to make sure the numbers were still correct and visible on the mailbox and the house. A-OK. Same for my neighbor's house.

Well, not really. If I remember right New York and California (I know we do) both have age brackets for each grade level of school and if you hit a certain age you are promoted. I had students who checked out of one class and into the next grade level class in the middle of a semester-and continued their string of Fails from one class to the other. The graduation exam here in CA is mostly written at the 8th grade to 10th grade level. And a friend who helped test run the essay parts of the exam told me the grading standard was pretty much "If they put their name on it they got a D and passed." If they can't pass the test but have hit the age limit they can be given a "Certificate of Completion" (I think that is the name, retired almost 12 years.) and they wave bye-bye to them. That certificate looks an awful lot like a diploma to most people.

We have gotten wrong packages or had our packages go astray three times I know of. One package went to the right street number one street over - it happened on our mail carrier's day off - the next day when I told him the tracker claimed it had been delivered he checked, went over and got the package and brought it to me. The other two went to 314 E. XXXXX Street when I am at 314 W. XXXXX Street - only three blocks apart and both the city street signs and the post office only use the "E" or "W" in the address. The two times we got the wrong package left on the porch one of us went over and gave the package to the people at the right house in person.

Now back in 1965 when I lived in a town in Los Angeles County I had a country ham my dad sent us for Christmas get delivered to the right house number, but one street over. The post office sent someone to get it after I asked why I hadn't gotten it two days later (registered mail and my Dad called to make sure I got it.). They found that not only had someone signed my name for it but they had cooked and eaten the ham. USPS was not amused, they filed mail fraud charges.

Go you one better--I was to receive a package by FEDEX, and it was delivered to Walnut Ave, and I live on Walnut Street (clear across town and my house number does not exist on Avenue)! Contacted FedEx and told them that upon doing a tracking that the package had been delivered, I asked them where was it delivered, because it was NOT delivered to the address on the package. They came back and asked for a description of my house, which I provided. They then came back and instructed me to contact the shipper! Luckily for me and the shipper, the person that did get the package contacted me (and I don't know how he got my cell phone number), and I got my package by going and getting it myself!

Maybe I missed something but why did you sign for and accept the first package if you weren’t expecting it?

I just ordered some computer parts online. Just got the shipping confirmation.....it's coming FedEd Smartpost with expected delivery 7 days from now. It is being shipped from a facility that is only 2.5 hour drive away! Unbelievable! Interested to see where they are routing it.

Jerry, what you got is an "Indirect Delivery" It probably needs a signature but could be from a neighbor. The driver should always leave a note for the recipient. It's a service offered by FEDEX. You can always decide not to sign for it and the driver should always ASK if you will accept for neighbor.

There's also the chance that your neighbor had previously told the driver to take it to you if he's not home.

Your package will be delivered by USPS. Fedex takes it from the shipper to the post office that delivered to your address, they in turn take it to it's final destination. It is a shipper's choice or one you might've selected when placing your order. It's cheaper but slower than regular Fedex but faster than regular mail. This service I believe is also available with UPS.
