Got it from my passing brother, an avid amateur photographer.
He had Rollei and Alpa cameras; see a connection ?

Flash bracket cover? Looks like the ones I use for my Nikon cameras. Only an uninformed guess.

It looks like a hand-held light meter’s detachable incident dome.

OK, it fits, but its rather over-sized white incident light reader, what about the little black case ? It has a grid inside. Now where do I attach a pix (of it assembled w/o the black part) to this reply?

The grid is designed to narrow the accepted beam of reflectance when the meter is used in reflected light mode. The white insert is used to meter light sources in incident mode.

At least, that's what I've seen on similar old meters.

Heres what it looks like mounted in front of the meter, rather over sized, but the black part with the grid inside doesn't seem to fit to anything. The black part does not open, its sealed.

Hmmm... Any Alpa fans out there?

I'd say you remove the meter from the camera to use
it as an incident meter, and the panel behind the grid
is the selenium cell. Looks like it has 2 slide-in contact
strips so there should be a dock for those on the meter.

Kinda ridiculous ... IOW verrrrrrry Alpa-esque.

The meter is mounted in the accessory shoe but I assume it is completely external to the camera- no integration or coupling with the camera. I remember the Alpa as a strictly manual camera. Assuming this is the cases, what is the make of the meter, perhaps Waltz, Leica, Sekonic? There were a number of manufacturers that made small meters that sat atop the camera. That might be a clue of those things is are accessories specific to the meter. To convert an incident ligh meter to a reflected meter usually grid or perforated disk is used in front of the ligh collector. To convert a reflected light meter for incident readings, a integrator or difusser is required. The accessories in the post look like thise accessories for a larger meter.

Picture - a typical small meyer of that era.

Wow and I thought the built in selenium meter on my first SLR (Praktica LB2) was behind the times...this looks like something out of a 50s sci-fi movie....
