Why don't you share some of those reputable sources?

How about a camera rental company?

I figured a rental company wouldn’t want people to screw up their property while it’s out.
The video covers my questions as well.

24 carat gold does not tarnish but it is aloyed with other metals when used for electrical contacts that do tarnish.

That's why I said gold, and not a gold alloy.
Cheap manufacturers may use a gold alloy, reputable ones will not.
(Where I worked years ago, Incoming Inspection would check the gold quality as well as plating thickness on circuit board connectors. If it didn't meet spec, it was rejected.

YOU COULD USE contact / electronic cleaner [ spray can on a Q tip ].

I eventually sent my Tamron 150-600 zoom in for repairs (under warranty) for exactly the same problem. They did a software update on the lens, and I don't know what else, and it has worked since.

What lens are you having the problem with? The Canon 24-105 L is famous for having a problem with the ribbon cable on the inside of the lens. You can try cleaning the contacts carefully and hope it does the trick, or back for repair it goes. Been there done it. Good luck.

I think I would use Lens cleaner on a Q-tip. For stubborn cleaning, I might use Mothers metal polish on Q-tip followed by 99% algohol If cleaning does not work, I would look for mechanical looseness as the problem.

I have always been told to keep the Q-tips even further from the internal workings of any camera than I keep my pencil erasers. And even the gentlest variety of Mother's contains abrasives, in this case microgrit. I won't even use my wife's "Sunshine" jewelry polishing cloths on interior areas.

Better safe than sorry.

Q-tips leave fibres... best to use something else.

Try using a women’s eye makeup applicator. The one that is about 3” long with a sponge tip. They work great and are really cheap.

Then I hope it’s dirty contacts. As was stated, the MK1 version of the 24-105L has a known internal ribbon cable issue.

An eraser will work and in days past was deemed acceptable. Coatings today are thinner.

Rubber eraser from a pencil.

Glue and residue eraser is much better. Not abrasive like pencil eraser.
Arts and crafts shops typically carry them, but sometimes you can find them at dollar stores too.
