Shocking what happens when you print on the wrong side. :-)
Umm, yeah... screws up everything because the ink gets all over rollers, guides... Been there!
For my epson, the reason why I turn it off is because it may not print weeks. Sitting idle with the ink in the jets is apparently what causes the jets to clog. If the printer is being used frequently, then this won't happen and so leaving it on would be the way to go.
Another reason why I turn it off - habit. Just like with lights, phone, computer, etc., anything in any small way to conserve power which saves money and ulitmately, the environment.
I have an Epson 4640 and I power it and the PC off when not in use. The printer will go to sleep if not used for a short period of time but where I live, power surges are not uncommon and I would rather not have the circuitry in the path of any surge. I don't print often so turning it on as needed is not bothersome.
Actually, it was coming out fine but looked odd, a little smudgy. I thought it was the printer screwing up again. That is until I touched the photo and smeared ink all over. Another humbling moment.
I have an Epson Artisan 810 printer that remains on all the time.
Based on your question, I just metered it, and it consumes 9 watts of power in this standby mode. Based on this waste of energy, I will turn it off and only turn it on from now on when I use it, which is very seldom.
P.S. I have this kill-a-watt device that measures power usage (in watts).
Always off--although I do turn it on if I want to print something. . .

Just bought a new printer. The Epson XP-440. I do not print a lot. My question is should i leave it on or off.
I hear pro and cons on both methods. What does the UHH members say.
I turn both of My Canons off all the time unless I am printing. I have done this for many years with no problems. I don't believe there is any advantage to leaving them on.
I have tried keeping it on and keeping it off. I see no difference.
I have been using an Epson Stylus Photo 1400 but I do not use it enough to justify the expenses.
When I run out of dyes I will not replace it.

I have given up printing at home. On line services are much more versatile, cost affective and produce equal or better quality images than I ever did with out hassles.
My Epson turns itself off after a while.
