I am with JerryC41 on this issue, with the exception of ukuleles. I draw the line with ukuleles, grin. I would like to add that I have never had ANY Issues with Adorama or B&H on ANYTHING. Both have Always delivered at least what they advertise or better without fail. JimmyT Sends.

Yeah, shipping charges are a killer. I've decided against ordering items when the shipping charge was about the same as the cost of the item itself. Shipping is expensive, and it will go up on January 19. Most dealers have requirements for free shipping, but even if an item is expensive, they still lose money on shipping. With all the online competition, we are in the habit of getting free shipping. I've bought and sold ukuleles, and shipping can be anywhere from $25 to $75.

Well I guess I will go back to eBay where they give free shipping.I purchased almost all my gear from Adorama but I think I will go elseware after this!

That’s why I use Amazon Prime for the majority of my purchases. Generally free shipping on most items. I also use an app called Honey that looks for better deals before purchasing.

Marilyng, you should have read the terms first before buying. If you were not sure about them, then you should have asked. Adorama did not cheat you or hide anything from you. You should have been more diligent and have assumed shipping was free.

The threat to switch to eBay is ridiculous. You know who Adorama is and where they are. They do have great customer service. They describe everything they sell clearly, have product reviews, sell white market and have solid guarantees behind their used equipment. How about eBay?

Unlike some other topics, posters here are pretty much one voice.

As others have noted, there is no such thing as “free shipping”. It costs money, and purchaser pays for it in the end. Whether that is included in the price, or a separate charge, it is in there somewhere. Even Amazon recently had to revamp many products it shipped (like cases of water) where the shipping costs exceeded their margin, and they lost money on that SKU, and they have about the best negotiating leverage in history! You pay shipping even at Brick and mortar stores as they have the product shipped to them - it is just in their price

As others have noted, you just need to look at the net delivered cost to decide. One should not worry about how it gets there.

As for free shipping over a certain $$, it is really just an extra discount they are giving you for spending a certain amount with them. Nothing more.

To the OP, it sounds like you believe you deserved this additional discount, specifically given the size of your purchase. Maybe, but it does not sound like they tricked you. Nor do I hear that you found the same item for less and would have bought there (at least from a reputable dealer!).

Did they collect Ohio Sales Tax? If not, you just saved that fee.

Really - they may not be collecting it, but pretty sure that Ohio has a Use tax that is to be paid by in-state residents if sales tax not collected. So, if one is a honest citizen, then you owe the tax. If you chose to ignore - then you are a tax cheat - nothing more.

With the recent Wayfair decision, the Supreme Court has weighed in here, and as quickly as they can, most out-of-state retailers will have to collect taxes and remit.

It sounds like after reading your post that the lens was sold on consignment. If that is the case then the shipping would have been paid by the seller if it was listed as free shipping. In that case I see no problem with the buyer paying the shipping. In most cases the shipping is included in the price of the product when you get free shipping. In other words the shipping is not really free. Someone has to pay for it.

There is no such thing as a free lunch. The cost of shipping is added on or included in the price charged for any item you order.

... You are going after a particular lens. One store states $811.00 with free shipping and another states $800.00 plus $11.00 shipping. Which one would you choose?

I would choose the store that states $811 with free shipping because I like getting free stuff.

Sorry.....I couldn't resist.

Think about it - the cost of shipping will vary depending on the distance between the store and the destination. So including the cost of shipping with the product means that somebody close to the store will pay the same price for shipping as somebody on the opposite side of the country. Sorry, I don't want to pay the cost of shipping to the west coast when I can pay the cost of shipping to PA.

So many people think that 'free' shipping means the delivery costs nothing.

Ebay is not free shipping. Shipping cost it's either charged in the price of as an added charge.
