Nikon 80-200 f2.8 lens Sold!

I am the original owner. I brought it to Nikon for repair of a button that wasn't working and for a cleaning last year. It is getting to heavy for me to carry, my reason for selling this great lens. It is in perfect, mint condition, lenses have always been covered or on the camera. Comes with both caps, hood & original hard case.

**This 80-200mm f/2.8 is good for portraits this lens can defocus backgrounds better with its fast f/2.8 aperture. Its conventional diaphragm creates fantastic sunstars on brilliant points of light (newer f/2.8 tele zooms have rounded diaphragms that don't make sunstars). It's perfect for use on FX digital for sports, action and low-light photography it could be the only tele zoom you'll ever need.

The AF Zoom-Nikkor is a high-performance telephoto lens with a focal length range of 80-200mm and 2.5x zoom that helps to create bright, sharp images and blurred backgrounds thanks to its widest aperture of f/2.8 and Extra-Low Dispersion glass delivering maximum light throughout the entire zoom range to the camera's sensor - even in low-light situations. ***

Photos on request.

I am asking $450 plus $14 shipping to cont USA.

Sorry I can’t purchase that from you, because I already own one. For anyone interested, the description of its capabilities is accurate. It’s a wonderful piece of glass. Its focus in af is dead on and like greased lightening. If you have a use for it, this is a decent price. You won’t be disappointed. Good luck with your sale.

I am interested in your lens. Can I use it on a Nikon DX ? I have a Nikon 7000. Also can you please send me a photo.
I’m a bit concerned about it’s weight. I’m 72 years old but in good shape. Do you have any idea how the lens weight compares to a Tamron 18-300 which is the lens I mostly use ?
Thanks in advance.

It can definitely be used on a dx camera. I have used it on both. It is a very heavy lens, almost 3 lbs. I don't know how much the Tamron lens weighs but since this is a 2.8 lens it is very good glass and I am sure it is heavier.

Thanks for your quick reply. I’d love to have this lens. Unfortunately I’m not home in CA at the moment so I can’t weigh
the Tamron. I would use this lens for travel so the weight is important. I’ll be back in CA on Sunday. I’ll weigh my lens and if yours is still available I’ll buy it.
It just occurs to me that I’ll try to do some internet research to figure out the weight. If I’m successful I’ll get back to you. How do you want me to pay for the lens ?
Again thanks

I am selling it because of the weight. I am sure it will be much more than the Tamron lens.

Thanks. I agree. I would really love to own this lens but I am afraid I won’t be able to carry it. Thanks for your honest reply.

I agree with what has been said about this lens. I have used it for many years and still own it. It's a beast of a lens but takes wonderful photos. I used it for sports, despite
the autofocus not being as fast as the newer lenses of today. I have used it for portraits as well. It's a great lens and it's being sold a fair price considering it's condition.
For a younger person on a budget or someone who doesn't mind carrying a small difference in weight, you will have a hard time seeing a difference in quality of images between this lens and the far more expensive 70-200 f2.8 lens currently being sold by Nikon. You can save a lot of cash by using the 80-200 instead. I'd never sell my copy. For portrait work, stick it on a tripod. For sports, I used it on a monopod most of the time and the weight wasn't really an issue. I've bought and sold a lot of Nikon lenses over the years, but I've always hung on to my 80-200.

This was my "long" lens on Nikon film cameras for many years, and then on the (mostly DX) Nikon digital cameras I switched to. It was unbeatable at my daughter's horse shows, including the dim indoor arenas, and at high school theater rehearsals (where the mirror noise didn't matter much - I had to use Leica rangefinders if I wanted to shoot during performances.) Like ksmmike, I learned early on to use the thing on a monopod. That way you only have to hold the weight up when you're moving, (you can put the monopod on your shoulder when you're doing that) and you get steadier shots to boot.

Like ronichas, I got rid of my heavy equipment recently. And her price is about what I got for mine. If you're in the market, this is a terrific lens.

The Tamron appears to weigh about 540 gm (19 oz) if the review I found is accurate.

I just got on off eBay last week for $460 (+$20 shipping), so I'd say that's a very good price. I didn't get the case with mine, although the lens looks brand new (as does yours).
