I keep at least one camera (preset for most parameters) on a nearby shelf set to allow me to grab it and go quickly in case of an unexpected photo opportunity. Have mixed feelings about a zoom vs. just a 50mm (FF) or 35mm (Crop). What do you favor?

I leave an 18-105 on my A6000 and a 24-105 on my A7rii unless I have a definite reason to put something else on.

I shoot M4/3 so in 35mm FOV terms.
One body has a 24mm to 80mm f2.8 and the second body has a 80mm to 300mm f2.8.

I have 2 cameras set close to the front door so 1 defiantly goes out the door with me - the most often chosen is a Canon T3i mounted with a Tamorn 18-200 IS/VR my 2nd choice is the Canon XTi with a kit canon 18-55. - I lucked out a couple weeks age with my habit of taking my camera in a re-usable grocery bag rather than keeping it in my camera bag as the camera bag was stolen from my car and the "grocery bag" was left behind.

I have the Nikkor 18-140 f/3.5-5.6 G ED VR on my D7100 and the Nikkor 35-105 f/3.5-4.5 on my FE (film Nikon). If I have a low ISO film in the FE then I use a nifty fifty (50 mm f/1.8) and forgo the zooming.

On my Nikon Df full frame camera I keep a 50mm f/1.8.

I keep a small photography go bag for those truly spontaneous events with a D7200, Tamron 18-400mm f/5-6.3, 35mm f/1.8, flash with a soft box, a spare battery, and other misc small stuff.
