Shot last week in Vienna. It is virtually impossible to photograph this statute without people around it due to its location on the Ring and right by the Burgring streetcar stop. The darkness of the clouds caught my eye as I approached this stop and I jumped off to catch this photo.

Really nice. I agree the people need to go, they don't add anything to the photo.

Interesting that you mentioned the enormous crowds in Venice.
I was fortunate to be there in November and I struggled to raise my camera to my eyes without taking 4 or 5 people out. I remember remarking that I have never seen so many people in a city that it made it very difficult to move.

It made New York City on New Years Eve look like a ghost town by comparison!

On another note Venice is one of the most beautiful cities in the world - truly a photographers dream..

Get up early in the morning when the tourists are still sleeping or do a 30s-60s exposure so that the moving people will not be captured. You'll need at least a 10 stop ND filter.

I respectfully disagree. Why should there not be people - it is a public place in an urban environment. And people honor Mozart's memory. Without the people the photo would be sterile.

It is a nice picture, and the wan winter sunlight add to the atmosphere. As do the people with cold weather attire.

Cheers

Vienna, Austria, not Venice, Italy. Oh well, they are both beautiful!😉

I agree with you. In making my comment I was actually thinking about the 5 minutes I had to wait so there wasn't someone posing in front of the statue with someone taking the photo. I have no problem with the people in this photo because they were not directly in front.

I don't find the inclusion of people objectionable. In fact, I think it "softens" an otherwise stark image.

It would be a beautiful image without those people.

Old trick for getting people out of the photo is to set up with a tripod and shoot exactly the same scene several times. Stack the photos in PS and then delete only people on each layer. Odds are that if you take enough photos you will eventually have every area of people void at some time. Assuming the crowd is reasonably small.

My technique, as well! Works like a charm, even without a tripod if you’re careful.

Very nicely done! I used to think people ruined my travel shots. I’ve come to realize that they add to the scene. They give it perspective and make it more real.

Agree, nice image. Did you run it through HDR processing in LR? And more importantly, how much money did you spend at the Christmas markets? We were there last year with Viking. Good thing my wife had room in her suitcase.
