Someone said I should label this post Bullwinkle and Rocky. These are a couple of shots from week before last. Colorado released a few breeding pairs of moose in northern Colorado in the 90s and wildlife department say there are now just a few under 1,700 ranging from up in southern Wyoming to down into northern New Mexico with probably the main cluster in the Grand Lake area on the south end of Trail Ridge Road. It is pretty rare to cross paths with the moose with all the forest land here. The bull moose paused to check me out and went on his way.

There was a cow and a calf with him but refused to come out of the trees so I could get a good shot of them. I did include a shot on the bottom of this post of the cow and calf. The moose shots were taken at close to noon and the light wasn't good. I've gone back a couple of times but haven't found them again. I will. It'll just take a little time. This was just about 40 miles from where I live.

Squirrels are a little more plentiful. This one was shot off my back deck in the south Denver metro area. After I returned from getting the moose shots I was sitting on the deck cleaning my gear and this curious lil' squirrel came visiting.

Then a couple of days later and a little closer to home, I got a few fairly decent elk shots. Elk are like the squirrels in that they aren't at all hard to find. I have a couple of herds with 100+ in each of them within 20 miles from where I live.

Please feel free to add your wildlife shots if you'd like but I'd just as soon you didn't edit mine.

Hey, Rocky! Watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat!
Not again...

Thank you folks for letting me share my experiences with you and expressing your appreciation for my sharing. I've made sacrifices, that I often question, for the ability to achieve the act of getting images such as these regardless of photographic quality as judged by current standards. As a younger man, in another place, I stood in awe of the ability to have these kind of opportunities and be able to achieve these kinds of results and simply reached out and embraced the idea without respect to the possible consequences. When I, by chance, encounter opportunities like these it has become an urge to share the experience with others whom I suspect will often not have the opportunity for themselves. I'm glad you enjoy seeing these critter shots. I hope you one day get such opportunities if that is your desire.

Thank you.

Sunday I'm heading for the high Sierra, specifically Yosemite for four days and then over the Tioga Pass to Lee Vining
for my last two and a half days. Hope to see lots of wildlife and certainly some great scenery.

Now I'm the envious one - Yosemite. I haven't been there yet. I wish you good luck, hope you have a wonderful time, and hope you'll come home with a card full and share it with us.

Thanks Janice. I haven't heard of a moose charging anyone here yet but my hillbilly logic would have me believe that a moose is a moose so I'm not going to perform any experiments, I assure you.

I fully understand - lol. Laskalass says they kinda hang out in their yards all winter and will charge you when you go to your car or when you get home and try to go inside. I think that would be the place for an attached garage - yes?

An attached garage sounds good to me, and maybe a freezer full of moose meat, just for a little thinning out of the herd maybe. Haven't done any moose meat but I hear it's pretty good.

Sorry for the delayed reply and thanks for the compliment. Hey, just head north to I-70 and turn left. It's only about 15 hours and the road's pretty good coming this way. Still, you live in a beautiful place, maybe no moose or elk but you've got deer, landscapes, all those rice fields gotta be pretty, all the geese, ducks, and scads of other birds, snakes, horses, agriculture, old barns, old antebellum houses, plantations, little towns with old buildings, lots of water, bugs, flowers, reflections, etc. Subject matter everywhere.

I've enjoyed your shots at Craighead Forest, a place to which I've been many times. I have a brother who lives 1.5 miles from there just off Harrisburg Rd. by that big ol' new church. From Ft. Smith originally, my 3 siblings are all grads of ASU so I know the area well - spent lots of time there. Get a long lens on that new DSLR, practice some, read the manual, ask lots of questions here on uhh if you have any, let that grandson use your other camera, and you two get out there shoot some pictures to show us.

You've done really good work here. I envy you living where those shots are possible. Great stuff.
