I do like the idea of backing up everything I shoot and assigning one card for jpeg and one for RAW. With a 128 GB card in the back up role it'll go on forever between transfers. BTW, I love the groom's shoes.

Nikon painted itself into a naming corner with the D7500. I didn't consider it an upgrade to the D7200 when it was announced, but I guess it is. It doesn't seem like a straight line from the D7000, D7100, and D7200. People won't have to choose between the D7200 and D7500 much longer. I always liked the D7200. I like two card slots.

The D7200 has a 24 megapixels sensor. Nikon decided to put the same 20.9 megapixels sensor, as the D500, into the D7500. Many would say, that is not a big factor, in comparing the two cameras. It appears that dual SD slots are important to many photographers. And not so to many. I assume the D7500, will be around for at least another two+ years before it is discontinued. I've been told the D7500 has issues with some manual focus Nikon vintage lenses. But, if one has no interest in these vintage Nikon manual focus lenses, it really doesn't matter.

The D7500 doesn't meter with most manual focus lenses (except the very few AI-P lenses) but that's no problem.

I believe the benefits of the much improved D7500 over its predecessors far outweigh the infinitesimally small risk of a single card slot.

I have done professional photography for over 40 years and only had one roll of film in my camera at a time. With digital I only have used one slot at a time for over 15 years. I have no need for an additional slot.

I have never had a card fail so I use the second slot more when I want to shoot both JPEG and RAW and save on different cards or when shooting video I save it to the second card.

Ahh, Nikon changing the numbers on their cameras to induce mass GAS attacks in the flock. What a clever strategy.

I'm not a pro but,,,, back in the day.... cameras only had "1" slot or as in my case 1 roll of film at a time... people will just have to get over
it......and on another....people that complain that you only get 280 shots per battery, ah come on just carry another one with you..... try this on for size..... on one of your shoots, take only 20 shots and then go home cause you have run out of exposures.

One on my students works at the Nikon factory here - where my D750 was manufactured. Last week she confirmed that Nikon has ceased production of the D750. But she didn't know (or more likely couldn't say) when the D760 will launch. I'll ask about the D7200 when I see her again on Sunday.
Cheers,
Don

Respectively, you have never photographed a wedding or an event. The dual card slot provides safety/peace of mind!

What are you doing photographing a wedding with a crop sensor camera?

There was talk not too long ago about Nikon trying to get some consistency in their numbering system.

At the same time we had a D3500, D5500, D750, D7500, D500, D850, D5. They skipped some numbers to get there.

Now there is a D5600, with D760 and D6 apparently on the horizon. Eventually it should be easier to decipher what series of camera and how new or old the model.

Rarely do I get a gas attack, going extinct probably won't change the gasification processes. My D5500, 1988 Chevy Silverado and I will endure as fossils.

I take many anti-acid tablets also. I have a D5300 and an 1988 Chevy S-10.

Dang kids. *My* camera had interchangeable backs- I could have a roll of 200 film in the camera, another roll of 100 in another and a roll of 50 B&W in a third just in case I wanted to be "artistic". That newfangled 35mm stuff with 24 shots per roll was just seditious.

D7500 read your own post. The lack of two cards? Really?

There's more to it than that.

Besides D7200 w/2 card slots and D7500 with only 1...

D7200 is 24MP, D7500 is 21MP.

D7200 has slightly greater color depth and dynamic range.

D7200 has a higher resolution monitor: 1.23 million pixels vs 922K pixels on D7500.

D7200 is rated to get 17% more shots per battery charge than the D7500.

D7200 uses magnesium alloy exterior panels in areas that have been substituted with plastic on the D7500.

On the other hand...

D7500 has a more sophisticated AF system (though they look the same: 51-points, 15 cross type).

D7500 has Nikon's Automated Focus Fine Tuning feature, where it essentially self-adjusts. D7200 doesn't have this feature.

D7500 has a faster frame rate: 8 fps vs 6 fps in D7200. And it has a larger image buffer: 50 RAW, versus 18 in D7200.

D7500 has higher usable ISO (goes up to 51200, versus 25600 in D7200).

D7500 has a partially articulated Touch Screen LCD (tilt only) vs a fixed screen on D7200.

D7500 can shoot 4K video, while D7200 maxes out with Full HD.

D7500 has improved wireless connectivity.

D7500 is a bit lighter weight.

Maybe Nikon has a D7600 in the works that combines the best of both the previous models.
