Wow! Out of 8.4 million registered Democrats there's not a single one who doesn't hate America and Christians? What's the source of information for this? I'd like to learn more; I should probably change my party affiliation since I don't think I fit this profile.

I didn't even know that there was a tunnel all the way from New Jersey to Holland!

I'd of made the tree wider at its base so that it filled the space of the "A" as the "O" fills the space of the "O".

Er... the picture shows the entrance to the Holland Tunnel in Jersey City, NJ.

However, one has to keep in mind that the name is an official directive sign identifying the entry to the tunnel. The placement over the N and the O can definitely confuse visitors to the area. I have had problems with signage when "modified" by decoration or spray paint. GPS and map do not help in congested traffic. The decorations could have been mounted above the letters to avoid confusion. I would say that the placement was done by someone who does not use the tunnel. (It is said that the traffic design engineers do not use the results of their efforts.)

Actually, even on a good day, the entry to the tunnel can be problematic if you are not in the proper lane at the tunnel.

Can we direct the damages to you when collisions occur due to the inability to read the sign at high traffic? Just asking.

Seriously, the change was necessary and timely to prevent potential accidents that could occur due to the inability to identify the sign.

(I've driven that stretch a few times when I visited NY/NJ.)

You are just kidding, right? Are you telling us that a person who is as far as the photographer was to take this photo, could not be 100% positive it was really the Holland Tunnel he was about to enter? Really??? At that point of entering the tunnel it seems if the proper lane has not already been chosen the driver is going to be SOL anyway. There would be no turning around to not take the tunnel.

It would appear that some supervisor told the new guy to put up the decorations and he did just that without thinking of the O and the A matching the wreath and the tree. Problem solved, probably 10 minutes to change. No shutting down of the tunnel, no major accidents necessary to unsuspecting motorists at all. No big deal unless it is someone who just has to voice an opinion over the least problem of the day.

Have a wonderful Christmas. I hope your day perks up for some happiness.

It looks better the second try but jeez how important is it!!

For out-of-towners who are not native english speakers, it could make a difference. The decorations looked like a different spelling and could confuse people looking for the Holland Tunnel and finding the Hollaand Tonnel . To the average person it probably would not be a big deal - just keep in mind people don't seem to be getting any smarter ...

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience. If you've watched the news lately, you probably saw a bit about the controversy stirred up by the decorations on the Holland Tunnel in NY. A man was "upset" by the placement of the Christmas tree. As a result, a petition and a poll led to the removal on one wreath and the moving of a tree. I wonder if this will be made into a movie, "Another Christmas Miracle." Ridiculous.

Some people have way too much time on their hands!
