My theory on this is, that I wanted to utilize old school lenses on a new school body. I've considered sony, fujifilm and many others simply because of their size, weight & image quality. As of Nov 21st. I went with my first Canon Camera the M6. But after attempting a couple old school manual focus lenses on the camera, I've had to step forward instead of step back and buy a couple of new school lenses. The small view screen & my eyes simply couldn't bare the strain. As one of the other posters said, asking a loaded question like this, one is bound to get a wide range of replies. Sometimes it might even mean going out and renting a camera first before you buy.

That’s why I rented the Z6 and despite all the reviews.comments and negative postings about lack of 2 card slots, lack of continuous AF, I bought it. 90 % of what I shoot is landscapes and some event photography where I can pose people. So the Z6 works for my style of photography.

I’ve been very disappointed with my Nikon 1 and have been looking for a really good replacement. The new Nikon Z6 and Z7 have caught my eye. But they are terribly expensive. So I am wondering if they are worth the money or if there are other great mirrorless cameras I should look at? Your thoughts.

Which is the best Automobile, Computer, Television, etc? Everything is subjective and it depends on your shooting style, budget and what you want to do with the results; GP (all around), portraits, Landscapes, actions, wildlife, travel. All the top brands are more or less equal in technology and will provide excellent results. Guess in the end its going to be up to your.....read the all the expert reviews then decide. Lots of deals going on now around Christmas, time to snap one up

In answer to the question, "Any mirrorless camera that works for you!".

Questions like "What's the best camera?" make my fillings hurt. There is no best camera.

I watched Miss Universe last Sunday. Who did you think was number 1? Bet your choice is different than mine. And I'll bet both of us would change our minds about a half hour after meeting our current favorite. With women, most of us don't commit until after a few dates and test drives.. That's like renting a camera to give it a test drive. I bought a Nikon1 without a test drive, and I ended up selling it for a discount.

Wish I had taken my ex for a longer test drive.

I love my Fuji X-T2. For me I don't see enough benefit to switch to the X-T3.

Lens jargon applies as well, noise, F stop,
Shudder speed, and chromatic aberration.

Sony a6000. B&H has it for $498 - free ship with kit lens (16-50) Have seen the 2 kit package for $648, but would shop around if Sony was in the running. I own one. My biggest complaint is size - too small. Perfect for travel snapshots though.

Best for what purpose? If the Nikon Z's are too pricey, I would have to say the best all round choice would be a Fuji, the X-T3 or if you want a good deal, the X-T2. On budget, the X-T20 will give you the same IQ. If you need full frame I would explore the Sony line. If size and weight is a real consideration, the 4/3 Panasonic and Olympus are worth a look. They each have their advantages, but the best all rounder is still the Fuji.

Whatever you choose, check the manufacturer's website for refurb. I bought the Olympus OMD EM-1 while they had a refurb sale for a very good price.

I downsized from Canon APS-C and a bag full of pro level Sigma lenses to the Olympus OM-D EM1 II with the 12-40 f2.8 Pro. Love my choice. I was looking for pro level controls and stellar image quality. I got both with this setup. I will aquire lenses in the future as the need arises.

Gorgeous Cat's Eyes photo! FWIW, I ordered my Z6 with 24-70 f4 and FTZ adapter so I can use ALL of my Nikkor lenses! I also had to buy an XQD card and reader, insofar as the Z-series cameras have only one XQD card slot. But, having grown with Nikon since 1976, I'm in too deep and too happy with quality and features to look elsewhere.
I photograph people, portraits, events and documentary film, so with its built-in stabilization for my old hands are top-of-list needs for me. And, the "what you see is what you get" viewfinder and touch interface are added benefits.
I look forward to sharing . . .

[quote=burkphoto]We see this question often. The mirrorless interchangeable lens camera market has four veterans — Panasonic, Olympus, Sony, and Fujifilm, plus relative newcomers *at the high end*, Canon and Nikon.

With all those players, there is something for everyone. There is no one best mirrorless camera... just the one that meets your needs.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Well said (as usual), burkphoto. I shoot mostly wildlife and this often means working in windy, dusty conditions, and often while knee-deep in the middle of a muddy stream. I chose the Olympus OM-D EM1 MII camera and Olympus lenses because besides excellent build and ruggedness, performance, and flexibility, they are entirely weather-sealed and so one doesn't need to be overly concerned with water- or mud-splashing, dust, etc. Just keep shooting and wash it all off at the end of the day!

For someone with different needs, e.g., doing mostly indoor photography, weather-sealing is probably secondary and other features are likely more important. So, yes, there certainly is no best mirrorless camera out there!

Well, as expected, you've seen quite a variety of responses. My suggestion is to make a list of the aspects of a camera system that are most important to you. It can be a short list or a long list. In my case, for example, it's quite short. (1) small size, so it's easy enough to shoot one handed if needed, (2) maximum amount of stabilization, whether in-body (preferable) or in the lenses, or, both (which is totally doable nowadays). This gets my shutter speeds as long as possible, thus keeping the iso out of the statosphere in low light. (3) flippy-tippy lcd. Of course a good array of lenses goes without saying.

With those as my priorities, I chose the Olympus OMD Em-5, and I'm still using it (the original) and it's going strong. If I had my druthers, it would have focus peaking, but the dang thing won't die and I don't want to spend a few hundred bucks just for focus peaking.

Your priorities may be completely different, leading you to a totally different choice. For example, I shoot raw only, so Fuji's wonderful jpg processing is lost on me. For you, it might be just the ticket.
