They are rats. I wouldn't let them eat from my hand. What's the purpose of doing so?

Or if you try to rescue them. One somehow got its foot caught in one of our feeders. I had to cut a wire to get it loose. Held the wire with one hand and wire cutters with the other hand. Before a successful release, the little bastard bit me on the finger. Didn’t brake the skin, just left marks like a bad pinch.

The squirrels are constant visitors to my Bird Feeders,,,have never fed them by hand however,,,have seen on the You Tube where people set up obstacle courses for the squirrels to navigate before getting food,,,the squirrels go through some gymnastics but always figure it out,,,they are fun and entertaining...

Thank you.

Somehow it has come to be commonly believed that all mammalian wildlife harbor the rabies virus. That is untrue. There is no evidence that either rodents or lagomorphs (rabbits and hares) pose any risk of rabies. There are, however, some health hazards related to direct or indirect ectoparasite contact with ground squirrels, which harbor the plague bacteria.

Bats, raccoons, skunks, foxes, coyotes, unvaccinated and feral cats are all potential sources of rabies infection for humans. And here’s a surprise to many; the great horned owl has been proven to be an asymptomatic carrier of the rabies virus. Not really surprising, because they are the principle predator of skunks, which are commonly assymptomatically infected with rabies virus.

Thanks for the information. However, I don't think I need worry since I ain't never gonna go around petting any wild animals or birds. (:
