Unlike many sites Bodie should continue to look the same. They keep it in a state called "arrested decay". That means no restoration, just keep it as is. Actually harder to do.

Interesting compositions. I prefer seeing the rich colors of the wood.

I think ghost towns lend them self to B&W, but you are right about the rich colors of the wood. Here is one of the photos in the color version.

Vcmestimator -

Thanks for the pictures and the memories. You beat me by seven years. I visited the town in 1979 and I can still remember the day vividly. I approached Bodie from Mono Lake, was halted temporarily by a herd of cow and then continued up to the crest of the gravel road. What I saw when I got there was magical - this was what I envisioned the old west as being. I was inspired to write a dime store novel set in Bodie. Here it is 39 years later and the novel is still only 2/3 finished. I guess I should finish the novel before I ... (well, you know) but having ADD I probably wonโ€™t.

Bill Kijek

PS- I still have six or seven history books about Bodie and some newspaper reproductions down in our crawl space. Also have 20 or 30 2 1/4 slides from 1979.

The black & white photos of Bodie do emphasize the "ghost-town" antique condition, but I was there on a gorgeous weather day in late summer & much appreciated the (updated film-wise) look of my KR-64 slides in COLOR.
