What is this?

I know this is more a bird question than a photo, but I thought I'd see if anyone here can help ID this before I have to open an account at Audubon. I think this is a Muscovy Duck, except it doesn't look like it has webbed feet. I have seen photos of Muscovy's that have webbed feet and the skin on its face does not appear to be red, but that may be the photo. Can anyone help? This one was in a rescue center in south FL.

Maybe an American coot because of the white bill and lack of webbing

That bird is called the common gallinule, or also known as a moorhen. Close to a coot.

Try American Coot or Mudhen.

That is a Coot, not a Gallinule.

Looks like this could be a purple gallinule or an American coot. The color of the feathers appear to be purple, but it has an all white beak which is a property of the American coot. The two are closely related = tossup

Most definitely NOT a purple Gallinule. I'm going with Coot.

The original post is a plain old American Coot, also sometimes called a Mudhen. This one is a Common Gallinule also commonly called a Moorhen. The Purple Gallinule is very similar to the Moorhen except primarily for its colouring, being a rich Purple with a bright blue headplate. The Common Gallinules headplate is the same colour as the rest of its beak.
I have many pics of Purple Gallinules but none accessible at this time to post (am at church at the moment)

I agree fully: first is a mature American Coot while the second is a Common Gallinule.
