The other possible consideration, that is if your car has a trailer hitch, is a rack with a ramp that you could load the scooter onto. That would be easier than having to assemble and dis-assemble when using the scooter. You can get a cover for in-climate weather transportation. I concur with thoughts and recommendations of joehel2 and dpfoto.

If she's eligible for medicare, they may be able to help. If she wants to drive, she can learn to drive with her left foot and an adapter to let her do so. I had my right foot amputated several years ago and I now use the adapter so my left foot activates the gas pedal and also the brake. Works well. Once she gets to where she wants to be, that is a different story if she can't walk.

Electric wheel chairs are available as well as a carrier that goes on the back of your car. Again, may be available through medicare, if she is eligible.

I have had a scooter for a number of years. I have MS and can walk with a cane or walker so long as not going too far when I use the scooter. I will not recommend a name but would suggest you seriously look into a three wheel rather than a four wheel, 3 wheel has a much tighter turning radius and she can avoid backing up to turn into an isle in stores. I've ridden both and much prefer the 3 wheel and they are not any more likely to turn over than a 4 wheel as long as an adult is driving.

I got one for my wife and it’s working out quite well. It's a Jazzy Zero Turn. Four wheel, zero turn, breaks down into four pieces, fits in the trunk of a small car, 10-11 mile range. My mother-in-law is in assisted living and several of the residents there have a variety of scooters, some pretty nice ones. Look around.

i have the drive (bobcat) it has 3 wheels but it has small stabelizers wheels to keep it from tiping. had it for my wife, she passed. now i use it for my self. im 85 years old, and i fell last may and cracked my tail bone and 2 veterbrays, i use it when i go on cruises, and for some photo shoots. it comes apart in 3 pices. i keep it in the trunk of my car, its a ford focus. even with my bad back i can lift it in and out of the car and assemble it.had it for about 5 or 6 years now, no problems, it needs a new battery they cost 72 dollars, when i boughted it it was $550.00 give or take a few. now they are six somthing. bought it from walgreens drugs.only draw back is when everybodey knowes you have one they want to borrow it when they go to disney and or cruises.

We have had several over the past 25 yrs - this little guy is the best we have come by regarding convenience and power A fried borrowed it for a cruise to Alaska - it worked well on the ship and shore. Just pulling the seat off and folding down the steering makes it light enough to lift into and out of a car trunk.
Check with your orthopedic Dr. - see if he/she will help you get one from Medicare they will in some cases - like ours.

Look at the Go Go Ultra X 3-Wheel Travel Scooter on Amazon for $829 with good reviews. Someone earlier in the blog said to avoid a three wheeler, but four wheeler adds considerably to the weight. From your description your wife is not an immobile invalid but just can't walk far, so it would seem she may be mobile enough to extend her leg to the side to stabilize if it did begin to tip a bit. I can't believe the tipping concern is very great since a majority of these vehicles are three wheelers.

Having tried the 3 and 4 wheel versions, the three wheeler is very unstable...a friend broke her wrist when she toppled over going around a corner a bit fast...the fourth wheel adds very little to the weight and as the whole thing disassembles for transit would make no discernable difference..

Have you thought about adding a motor to her wheelchair?

No. That wouldn't be as maneuverable or practical as a scooter.

I will check it out. You are correct, she can walk but not for any distance. A trip to the grocery store and she is exhausted.

I agree. I've not been able to verify this site or merchant. I have found similar scooters on sale in the UK.
