You should looks at Promedia gear great overall products with good prices. Here is the link to the gimbal heads. Hope this helps. I have had the GKJr. Katana Junior Telephoto Lens Gimbal Head since it was released about 3 years ago it handles every lens we have up to the 600mm f4.

I've been using a setup similar to what you're asking about. Nikon cameras with the Tamron G2 150-600. When I bought the lens last year there was a promo going on that included a Promaster GH25. I don't know what the retail cost is for that head since it was bundled with the lens. It works fine though. I'm sure there are heads with smoother movement for a lot more $$$. When I first got this one it had a very slight sticky spot when panning. I worked on it a bit and it went away and now pans quite smoothly. I use it with a Manfrotto Carbon tripod that I've had for many, many yrs and the combo works well for me. I often remove my camera when shooting birds and carry it with a shoulder sling, even with the 150-600 lens. I prefer the flexibility of hand holding most of the time. Bottom line, if you don't 'need' a high end head or use one constantly the GH25 will work for you.

If you already have a sturdy tripod and a good strong ball head consider the Wimberly Sidekick. It gives you the usability of the gimbal without loosing the ball head for when you don't need the gimbal. It runs around $250 and is beautifully made. It also is much smaller to cary than a full gimbal head, fits right in your bag.

Chris

I fully agree with Chris Hayes. I have the Wimberly Sidekick and really like it. Takes up much less room and works great. I don't have to dedicate a tripod to have a gimbaled head. The cost is much less also. Much better deal I think.

Anyone have experience with Promaster GH25 vs Benro GH2- did not want to spend the $$ for Wimberly WH200. any other thoughts. will likely be on a Indurio CLT303 and Nikon D7500 with Tamron 150-600G2 or Nikon 80-200. appreciated

I have been using the Tamron 150-600 g2 with my D810 for the last six months. It is a great lens and the speed of focus and sharpness is incredible

Have you considered Nest brand. It is what I use, on a Nest tripod. The US distributor for Nest Gimbal heads is MT Shooter here on UHH.

I also have a NEST that I like, but the website you linked has incredibly high prices - cheaper elsewhere I think.

all comments much appreciated - so far narrowed down to Sirui PH20 to with my Induro CLT303 tripod (my old Gitzo 1227 is just too light) or Movo - am finding it a little tough to hand hold - saw a lot of Wimberly at Wakodahatchee last weekend

Interesting that you mention Wakodahatchee, I shoot their often. If I were to use a tripod there, I would not get about 90% of my shots. IMHO, the birds are so close and fly so fast that you will find that using a tripod prevents quick enough movement to get the shot. Also, a lot of folks use the elevated passage ways to walk, and if your tripod is not up against on of the hand rails you could find yourself blocking folks from going around you easily or worse, blocking a wheelchair.
Yes, I have also seen many folks with tripods with gimbal heads there, and I know they are missing a lot of shots. Besides, to move around you must either reset your legs, most people don't and they actually get in everyone elses way because they leave the legs extended.
I know you will make your own decision but if your shooting the 150-600 like MOST of us, including small folks, can get great shots without having to put it on a tripod.
Now if you were shooting say a 400 2.8, or a 500 or 600 f4, then you may well need a tripod. But with most lenses it is not necessary. Spend your money on quality glass instead.

Check out the Lensmaster gimbal. It’s solid and priced around $200.

On sale now at $249.

ONLY seller that supplies USA version heads with the 5 year USA Warranty. All other sellers are grey market heads with no warranty at all and sold direct from China.

MT Shooter is the US distributor and warranty center - he also was involved in the design and testing of the present versions. Those low prices on Amazon and Ebay are Gray Market.

If your referring to the Nest, Camera Cottage, as far as I know, is the only person in the US selling it. I've had one for a couple of years and have had no problems with it at all.
