They are not common in the Netherland but years ago they escaped while on transport to another Zoo, now we have a large population in the forest , I was very happy to spot a few and was able to photograph them.

Good capture! I like the texture of the moss and tree bark as well. Looks a lot like our chipmunks, common here, don't need zoo specimens!
I'm glad for these little ground Squirels that they could escape and now can roam around freely in the forest, as I said they are not common over here but now we can spot them in nature and not in a Zoo!
