Speed light recommendation

I'm in the market for a good, durable speed light for my D500. I've read some reviews on Nikon's SP5000 and they haven't been very good. I shoot primarily landscape and wildlife; however, I do occasionally shoot special events for friends and family and could use a good speed light. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I'm happy with my Sigma flash, gets used about twice a year with the grand kids.

What isn't very good about the SB5000? So far all the suggestions are good flashes but I don't think any of them is better than SB5000. Depending what's not so good about the SB5000 you may want to check out Quantum or Norman portable system.

If you're looking to stay with OEM, Nikon SB700 or SB910

I’ve used all of Nikon’s high-end speedlights and would have to agree, It doesn’t get better than the SB-5000. The user interface and features are top notch. Built in radio receiver to use remotely with Nikon’s transmitter. ( you use the menu screen to adjust) If money doesn’t matter and you want OEM, that’s the one to get.
Personally, I’ve been thrilled with the Godox system (labeled Flashpoint from Adorama) I use flash a lot, and the system is the most extensive in the industry. I would recommend the Godox V850 with the built in battery pack. It also has a built-in radio receiver for remote use and a very easy to use transmitter. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1341867-REG/godox_v860ii_f_nikon_kit_v860ii_for_nikon_kit.html

I agree on Flashpoint from Adorama. I have 4 from the 600 watt second down to the speed light. Very functional system and very well priced for the functionality.

Godox…

TT350N...$84
TT685N...$110
V860IIN...$179

The first 2 use AA rechargeable batteries, the 3rd uses a proprietary Lithium battery for more capacity and better cycle times.

I use the Sony version of the first two and had the V860IIN when I was shooting Nikon. I just about retired my SB800 and 900 after getting the Godox. All the features, more power, radio trigger, and a fraction of the cost.

I have read from other Photographers that there are many reliable " Off Brand" Speedlight Flash units, I myself chose a Altura brand flash for Nikon Cameras. As of today it has worked fine, although it has been used sparingly. There are many choices of Speedlight Flash units. Granted sometimes Price is a contributing factor, as was my personal case. I would like to one day own a Quality Nikon Flash unit, but even that could possibly be defective.

I have been using an SB700 for several years. I don't use it a lot, but it works really well with my D5200 and D7500. It is pricier than the third-party units.

Ken Rockwell really likes SB400. "Inexpensive and very good"

Definitely the Godox system (or Flashpoint - it's the same flash/system).

I got the SB5000 around the time I got the D500. I haven't found any downside for my use. I was looking to be able to trigger a flash on the other side of a wall, while being able to control it from the camera. It does that with radio frequency control.
