I upgraded an old Win 7 laptop to Win 10 and it ran faster. Of course, eventually I moved it to Linux, but that won't help with Adobe products.

OP's computer apparently has 32 GB of RAM. If so, no additional RAM will increase the speed of her PS post processing. Nor will buying a CPU with more cores, as those will sit idle because PS and LR address, at most four cores. Thus her AMD FX 8300 with 8 cores already has 4 cores idle when pp. The same would be true for an Intel processor. All of these comments assume OP is not a gamer during non photo hours, which I assume the "Microsoft representative" was. He clearly knew nothing of digital photo pp. If OP is a big gamer, the AMD is not a top video game performer, but it will run Windows 10 with no issues as well as LR and PS. I OP is comfortable downloading Win 10 from thw Microsoft web site, I would that avenue. Otherwise, purchasing a DVD downlooad will mwean updazting the verfsion you bought from the store. There have been some issues with recent, but not the latest versions of Win 1

This was sent prematurely. Correcting the last sentence:

"Otherwise, purchasing a DVD from a store will mean updating the version you bought from the store. There have been some issues reported with recent, but not the latest versions of Win 10, when running on AMD 8300 CPUs." Happy hunting.

Yes, it will, but you will probably need a number. I downloaded for free when it was available, and it worked fine. After a Win10 update, Windows would not run. I tried to reinstall it, but it wanted a number - a number which I never received. Someone recommended looking on eBay for aWin10 activation number. I got one for about $15, and it worked. This was on a Dell desktop from about 2008.

Another possibility is to contact Windows Support. If you ask for help downloading the program, chances are they will do it for you. They did for me!

An SSD for Operating System & programs is an excellent suggestion, Susan & others.

Hi Mark. The suggestion was passed on to me by another photographer who is an expert in computers. It makes sense because the SSD is faster, which is what you want for OP and programs. I use 4TB HDDs for photos, documents, etc. and backups.

Not necessarily! I have a 12 year old enclosure, Intel i7, 32 GB RAM, 2 GB dedicated graphics card, 1 TB SSD, a 1 TB and 2 TB sata data drives, 5 externals for backup, ... I run 5 or 6 photo editing programs, including LR Classic CC and 2019 Adobe Photoshop CC, ... My processor and motherboard were upgraded in 2012. She does not need new hardware other than possibly RAM and larger SSD and of course backup drives. Certainly not a new PC.

Easier to upgrade with a desktop. Laptops have very limited space inside which makes it more difficult. I imagine someone who knew what they were doing could get it done! I recently upgraded my computer, too, and it should be good for several more years unless something breaks down. I got a new larger power source, new larger internal SSD [500GB], new larger internal HDD [4TB], added another 16GB RAM, and I also have two external 4TB HDDs for backups. I stuck with the original i7 processor, graphics card, and the motherboard, at least some of which will probably need replacing eventually. Gotta love the flexibility of the tower case!

I'm working with a Dell XPS-15 with i7 - 6700HQ CPU 2.60 GHz, 16 GB RAM, and it works just fine with Lightroom CC and Photoshop CC. Someone is trying to sell you a new computer when you probably don't need one. I'd just upgrade the OS to Win10 and see if it works. I don't see why not. I'm no computer engineer just a guy that knows what a normal computer user knows about equipment. YOu do have a very small hard drive. I'd upgrade that to the biggest one it'll take. Probably 1 or 2 TB. If you do a lot of photography that won't be enough. I suggest you get a backup storage device with at least 4 TB.

my desktop is much older than yours and I run win 10 64 bit just fine. my onlyproblem is a slow windows boot up. once everything loads its fine. I just bought a 1 tb ssd drive to reinstall windows etc. and that will fix the boot time. this is from an win 7 upgrade so upgrading from 8.1 should be better

The only person to mention the graphics card. Neither of those processors have enough graphics ram to run photo programs. Upgrade to a dedicated graphics card and you should be fine.

I run photoshop cc with 512MB graphic card. Photoshop doesn't need powerful graphic card.

Your Microsoft Windows and Office keys are now tied to your Microsoft Account and should or will update automatically even after a complete reinstall on older PCs, I did one yesterday for a customer on a ten year old Dell. She was a victim of the windows 10 automatic update that misplaced users files and went into a loop.

I updated 2 of my computers back when the update was free. Microsoft read the serial # or something in the computers and registered it. I have since reinstall Windows 10 3 times on one computer and one time on the other and it automatically licensed the computer once it connected to the internet. I don't need a number to install. In fact when I did the original update it knew that my computers are licensed for Windows 7 on one and 7 and 8.1 on the other. I can't update the one computer that originally came with Windows XP. Note that all the installation are clean install on a brand new drive.
