Loading Quicktime to a PC

Does loading Quicktime on a PC help someone read videos from a MAC? I've sent videos to people and some of them are unable to read it and all of them have PCs. Where should I send them to get the download if necessary?

There are variables in computer and software configurations that make your question hard to answer. I think your better option is to figure out how to make MP4 files with the H.264 codec because it is so universal.

Quicktime can help in some cases with MOV files.

Get Quicktime for PC here: https://support.apple.com/kb/DL837?locale=en_US

Even thought I've had an Apple Computer since 1993 I've learned a few things but I have NOT become a computer geek (and wouldn't care to). so when you say "figure out how to make MP4 files with the H.264 codec because it is so universal"....You might just as well be speaking Swahili. LOL

Have them download and install VLC from https://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.html. If there is nothing wrong with your files then it will read them very well. It is open-source (AKA free) and cross-platform. It will almost never balk at a video format so it solved the "codex" and similar problems.

If you're makin' videos, it can't be Swahili! What is your video software?

Actually I'm sending videos that I've seen online. Like I said some can read them and some can't. and that's why I'm thinking that it's something that they don't have on their computer.

If you'e forwarding the files through email, it may be that the process is corrupting the files. It has happened to me in the past, where one of several people could not read the file because it was corrupted in some fashion. The simplest solution is to re-forward the file to the person who couldn't open it. It usually but not always works.

I always found it annoying that an iMac can read any PC format but PCs can only read "their own" format. When I send anyone a document I wrote on my iMac or photo I stored in iPhotos, I first have to convert the document from iMac's "pages" format, to Microsoft's docx format and export the photo in jpeg format. I would imagine it's the same for videos where you'll have to export the video as an MP4 but like documents and photos, that should be an offered option when you export the file.

I you want to send an online video, just copy the url (from the address bar in the browser) and paste that into an email. Your recipients should be able to view the video. I do that frequently, including posts on UHH.

That is an entirely different situation. Don't tell people to install Quicktime for that.

What is your process when you send a video?

I will make a bookmark of it and keep it in my favorites list. and then drag that bookmark into the email I"m sending into the "Drop Attachments" area. This has always worked for me in the past

Consider using the bookmark to open the target in a new window and then dragging the url into the email.

I second the VLC recommendation. Fantastic program. It's for Windows, Linux and Mac, too.

VLC is good. That's not the OP's issue. The OP is sending links to online videos. Those are viewed in the recipients browser of choice. The issue is getting accurate links in the email. VLC is only useful if the entire video is transferred to the recipients computer.
