I have a recurring urge to get the Sony 18 - 135 lens, but at my age I just don't get out much at all. Is there a sure-fire GAS relief mantra somewhere?

Go to get what you want if you can afford and enjoy your life at your age, don't worry anything else!

If you can afford it, buy the lens and use it as an incentive to get out more. GAS satisfaction and increased physical activity, all for what I would guess is a reasonable price. Beats going to a doctor!

Yes there is...and it works.

Ready? Repeat after me...

"Shoot 40 year old film cameras and you won't have a reason to upgrade because there aren't any new features to upgrade to...."

You actually don't have to repeat that but doing it works like a charm.

Real GAS- Try Activated Charcoal Tablets- work for me!

Photo GAS? Stop already with the AGE excuse. There is enough ageism around here so we old guys need to stick together. Get the lens, get out of the house- its therapeutic- and shoot with it! You don't need to trek to the Himalayas- there is probably plenty of good subjects for you lens around the neighborhood- little critters, pretty ladies, birds, flowers, crimes in progress- whatever strikes your fancy!

NOW- if friends or family say you are "NUTS" for spending the money, THEN you can claim AGE as an excuse. You can say that you have lost your marbles or that you are ready for the grim reaper and want to enjoy yourself while you're still around. You can also remind folks (if it's true) that you don't waste your money of booze, pot, hard drugs, gambling or "ladies of the night" so you are entitled to enjoy your ART! I speak from experience!

Be well!

Oh, I forgot- That lens sound like a good lens for still life shots and family occasions as well- so you can use it around the house when the weather's bad.

This is the only solution. G.A.S. attacks happen over and over again.

Two suggestions:
1. Empty your pockets every evening and put any loose change and $1 bills into a jam jar. When your 'GAS' tank is full, go out and buy the lens. By the time you have the cash, some other 'must have' will have come around and you will be able to indulge guilt free.

2. Ignore the guilt. Unless you need the money for your heart meds, go and get the lens. There are no pockets on a shroud - you can't take the $$$s with you and it may get you out and about more.

GAS is not curable. It's an addiction that can only be cured by getting another addiction which isn't a good thing. So simply satisfy your GAS and it doesn't matter if you never actually take a picture with the lens.

Not sure how old you are, but based on the statement I'm guessing you are up there.

Whether it's cash or a lens, you can't take it with you. Wouldn't it be nicer to leave a lens behind after you have some fun with it.

My attitude is that the older we get the more toys we should have, as long as we can still put food on the table.

Yea, get a poster size image of the Sony 18-135 and mount it on the ceiling above your bed.
