Day tripping in New Mexico

Travelin' Bud Loc: New Mexico, Central Ohio & Eastern Kentucky

We went for a drive yesterday through Fort Bliss to take the backroad into Timberon which is a small remote community up in the Sacramento Mountains. A herd of Oryx, which are not native to the U.S., shot across the road in front of us. The photos of them in the road were taken through a dirty windshield. LOL

We also found several Red Tail Hawks.

Almost all pics were heavily cropped. Canon T6i, 70-200 f4 w/1.4x teleconverter.

Nice pics! Is the oryx an invasive species here? Hopefully they're on temporary leave from their rescue pens?

Thanks Bob for the kind words. Yes, Fort Bliss is still operational. When traveling through Oregrande to El Paso, you'll often see maneuvers going on out in the desert.

Escapees from Hunting Preserves, so I've been told. They're all over out here. Seen a few about an hour south of Albuquerque last summer. There’s a hunting season on them.

They are such pretty animals. I know a game ranch in Texas that has some actually lots of them it’s now run by the state of Texas, I did some dove hunting a couple of years ago there it way past of Llano Tx! Nice area I think the nearest town is called Mason,Tx. I know it’s north 25 miles or so.
