Windows 10 did an automatic update and I am now unable to see the task bar (I think that is what it is called). I figured it was just off screen but I can't find it. Any suggestions? This is the bar that normally shows up at the bottom of the screen but you can place it on any edge by clicking on it and dragging it to whichever edge you want.

Try pressing each F(unction) key across the top of the keyboard. I think one of them turns the task bar on & off.

Good luck

Step 1: Press Windows+F to go to the search box in the Start Menu, type taskbar and click Taskbar and Navigation in the results. Step 2: As the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties window turns up, deselect Auto-hide the taskbar and click OK.

Also right click on an empty part of the desktop screen and select "Display settings" and check the "Resolution." The update might have changed your screen resolution and pushed the task bar off the visible area.

Thanks all. I did another restart and all is well. I will definitely remember the comments above the next time. My aging pc is taking longer all the time to boot. Time to do some shopping methinks.

Step 3: Make a mental note to purchase an Apple, as soon as is reasonable. I hate to be snarky but Windows update problems are a constant topic here and every time I see one, I thank myself for spending the extra money for my iMac, avoiding all those problems I used to suffer with my PC.

With all due respect, have you not followed the update issues with Apple's Mojave posted on UHH? I'm not attempting to "argue" with your post, but Mac's also have update issues. I've been running Windows since 3.1 since 1992. I installed Win 10 within 2 weeks of it's initial offering in July, 2015. I have had very few problems with Windows Operating systems or updates. To suggest that Apple computers are virtually trouble free is not only misleading, it is untrue. You may want to check out these articles from a simple search.

I do appreciate your loyalty to Apple.

Probably needs a good "cleaning", loaded up with junk, apps you don't need, and other stuff they are famous for including (updates loading you up with crap). I keep my win10 updated, but I also use things like CCleaner to remove things not needed, stuff that slows everything down. I run it weekly, and check my Windows Defender and Bitdefender protection suites, as they help keep all the bad actors away, and they (all 3) are free!!! Even my oldy/moldy laptops are "fast and furious" due to keeping them "clean". Also shut off all the apps/features I don't use/don't need, that helps a bunch!!! My $.02

And Apple especially appreciates his and others loyalty. It has made Apple the first trillion dollar company.

Many people don't have the money it takes to buy an Apple product. Windows 10 works great for me on my 2 computers, but I would switch over to Linux before spending so much on an Apple. The people who think that Apple doesn't gather personal information the way Windows does would be wise to investigate further. It would also be wise to consider whether your removable hard drives, cameras, web cameras, USB microphones, etc. will work or even connect to an Apple computer.

MS sucks. My backup PC did an update overnight and is now toast. It is quite old and I know the cure - a new PC.
Now I got to wondering about my problem (sihost.exe Unknown Hard Error probably from the May update ?). I note the following -

1. I have never heard of a single user having a problem fixed by going to MS (well almost none but the fixes usually involve things like reinstalling etc that are so obvious anyway)
2. I know my problems aren't unique because 10s of thousands also report the same problem.
3. I have never heard of a single user having a problem fixed by any of these so-called MS gurus.
4. You never read about MS accepting that there is a problem and proposing timely fixes (timely means within a week or so rather than waiting for the next update).
5. The word 'service' now means 'wait forever'.
6. A serious update problem wastes about as much time as fighting a world war and takes as long to resolve.

Enough about my problems - I need to go and rebuild a server.

If you take the curser down to the bottom of the screen you can find out fast if the "hide taskbar" option has been activated. It should show up with this procedure.
