Just beware that you may someday fire up your camera and find that all the images are black. The K30 and K50 were made with a defective aperture control solenoid that locks the camera at f22 when it fails. My K50 was bought brand new and the solenoid failed at less than 3000 clicks. Ricoh didn't even bother to reply to an email requesting information. I bought a used K20D from KEH because it was affordable and I could still use the lenses I have. When I get time this winter I'll try and fix the K50 (the part is less than $35 but labor would be more than I paid for the K20). I guess I should look at it as a chance to learn something new, but I bought the K50 to be a camera NOT a training exercise.

I have a K30..K50...and got a heck of a deal on a new K3 with battery pack for $399!...however my LBA has far exceeded acquisition cost of the bodies...but I love them all.

I had a K-50 which needed some attention and my experience with Pentax was nothing short of 100% satisfaction.

As others have said, Pentax is every bit as good as the "big boys" and my advice is if you want to upgrade, skip the K-50 and go to the K-70. It will be kind of in the same price range but have many, many more improvements. Or if you can afford it, the K-1 is a great choice. By all means, go to the Pentax forum and bookmark it for future reference.

The handling of my Pentax 645n Mark II is tough to beat, as is the IQ. The info stored just outside the picture frame is equal or surpasses most exif data given by todays digital SLR's. Pentax has always been one of my favorites. Lenses too are great!

I have a k-50 that replaced a K-x that died. Have two film SLR's also, K-1000 and another that is semi-automatic that I'm not sure of the model. If you do a search on Pentax you will find a lot of info.

I've had a number of Pentax dslr's (and also the mirrorless K-01, which I still use) and the only one to ever give me trouble was the K-30. It started underexposing images on what seemed to me to be a random basis -- very maddening. Turns out there was an issue with the aperture motor on this model that was fairly widespread. Sounds like you're not experiencing this problem, so that's good for you. At the time, I simply stepped up to the K 5iis, which is a great camera.

It's nothing against Pentax, it's just that Nikon and Canon are more popular in this forum. What I like about Pentax is, a lot of their models are weather sealed.

I guess Pentax cameras don’t have the issues that Canon, Nikon and Sony have.
People who have tried Pentax generally know what those tools can do and make them work. The others, have more bells and whistles that never get used and are often confused. I used pro equipment from almost every manufacturer at one time or another but go back to Pentax. K1 mk2 is in my crosshairs but then, so is the new full frame Panasonic (both). I used two MX 35mm cameras until they wore out. Enjoy what works and make great images.
