Take or get a polarizer. you will be shooting out of windows on the chopper.

Get a circular polarizing filter. It will be generally useful. But as far as shooting out of windows, excercise caution to avoid birefringence in plexiglass windows. At least take some test shots before committing to use of the polarizer in the chopper.

I believe the 28-300 takes a 77mm filter.

To my knowledge, NOTHING Photoshop related will replicate or give your the EXCELLENT results you will capture by using a circular polarizer. But I would NOT use it for less than the full-frame equivalent of 40-50mm, as the polarization with virtually anything less than that will usually give you an uneven effect across the sky.

Good seat belt, I presume.

The CPL could help in that case. Not likely to hurt anything since you'll have enough light.

Is presume the same as assume?

One might assume that it is, but it isn't.

Good laugh. Both words '..suppose to be the case...'. However, presume is based on probability and assume is based on nothing. I will presume that I am properly buckled up!

The reason for the polarizer is because you will be shooting through plexiglass and it is bad for light reflections, so, the polarizer should eliminate the that.

Do not shoot through the plexiglass if you have a CPL on the lens. All of the stresses introduced during the manufacture of the window will show up looking like multiple rainbows. If you have to shoot through the plexiglass, take to CPL off of the lens.

I'll be shooting out the open door. No plexi. No glass. No mas!

Having been on a several Hawaii heli tours. My tip would to go on the open door ride. I sat in the front on my last trip and the plexiglass reflections ruined so many photo's. Each Helo is different the first few i went on did not have the problem to the same degree. The last one a 7 seat Eurocopter was horrible. Next time open doors for me. The 28-300 is a perfect choice.

Don't use the polarizer through plexiglass.

Some plastics have birefringent qualities, which affects the polarization of the light coming through it. Stresses in the plastic change the birefringence, which is wavelength dependent, leading to colored areas in the image. Glass does not have this problem.

PS: enjoy the 28-300. I use it a lot as an all-purpose lens.
Some glass does indeed have that problem, especially the coated windows of tour buses. Polarizers can be a problem shooting through those windows.

Definitely take the polarizer! Especially
given the time of day you’re aloft.

A polarizer seems like a reeeeally bad idea.

Polarizers are a waste of light. He's shooting
aerial views, at noon, at 20 degrees latitude.
That puts the sun almost directly behind the
camera, +/- 20 degrees. Any slight effect a
polarizer might have at that angle is hardly
worth the loss of shutter speed.

Ditch the polarizer, and you'll get quadruple
the shutter speed. A chopper is far from the
smoothest of aerial shooting platforms. It's
not like you could feather the engines and
smoothly glide along [would fall like a rock].
