Hi Everybody,
I think it's time for a new card reader. Actually I'm tired of the old one failing! I've done some research and decided on the one from Startech, does anyone use this card reader?...Julian

Have bodies that take XQD as well as SDXC UII mem cards. So, made the decision to buy both mem cards and a mem card reader from Sony (Sony MRW-E90/BC2 XQD USB 3.0 Reader) . The cards are expensive (2 XQDs and 2 SDXC UII 64GB cards were just under $500), but the card reader was not to bad at $69. So, it depends on which kind of cards you are going to read and whether you want guaranteed compatibility. Do recommend staying with a well known brand.

Might want to look at this one https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-ImageMate-Multi-Card-Reader-Writer/dp/B078JV59KJ/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1542077943&sr=1-3&keywords=sandisk+card+reader , which I used with Sandisk mem cards.

The SONY model: MRW-E90 card reader for XQD and SD works very well for me.

I use a Kingston one.
However, not sure how to recommend it, because is the type of thing that either works or doesn't work (mine works perfectly until now, for around 3 years). And most users will have a single experience with either a single brand and model (or a few of them).
I guess that staying with well-known brands and checking sites with enough reviews to obtain a more realistic average.

Wow! This has 26% one-star reviews. That's the first thing I look at when buying on Amazon - the percent of one-star reviews.

I don't like card readers that plug into the computer. I want something right here on my desk. I've found that USB extension cords are not reliable, regardless of cost or appearance. I have a USB hub on my desk, and I often have to unplug/replug it into the extension cord.

I just ordered two of these from B&H. They were cheaper than Amazon, even with the shipping charge.

This is the one I use. Very convenient and quick transfers. Looks like it is out of stock currently though.

There are a couple of other discussions of card readers here. From comments in those, and from additional research I have done, I believe that there is a strong argument in favor of the Sony reader for XQD. Other formats have been around a longer time, and there are other choices for them, but there have been several reports of problems reading XQD cards even with reputable non-Dony readers.
