As the old saying goes, there is no such thing as a free lunch. It costs money to run something like Flickr. Perhaps their business model has reached a point where this has become an issue, therefore, time for a change.

I think it is nice of them to still offer a free account, with 1000 photos.

An annual plan Pro Plan for $4.17 a month (yes billed annually) seems very reasonable to me. I removed my website back in May, it was costing me much more than that.

Beings as I have over 5,000 photos, I will gladly pay the annual rate.

Any photographer should be able to edit their work down to less than 1,000 photos worth displaying.

That's for sure! Unless you are using Flickr to review and select photos from a wedding, portrait, etc and then maybe you should ante up.

Some of us use it to store our snapshots. I’m at 45k but I have been using Flickr since 2012 or so.

Today I received the email from Flickr...New Pros receive 30% off their first year. Discounted price available until Nov 30. Free account limited to 1000 photos...I will consider going Pro (for a year) and really culling my photos rather than just uploading. I was using Flickr as another backup...now I will use it as a source for just backing up my best photos...

I just received several emails from Snapfish telling me that my photos would be deleted unless I placed a order but to make it more attractive they offered me 20 free prints AND shipping so I took advantage of it. Not sure if they limit the number or size of the photos they store but using their service might be another option.

Thanks...they have been sending me threatening letters that if I don't order something they will drop me...I have been ignoring them but eventually will probably give their services a try.

Before deleting photos from Flickr you might want to make a back up: I saw this in a google search...haven't done it yet myself.
How to back up your Flickr photos before your free storage space is ...

Nov 2, 2018 - Log into your Flickr account and head to You > Albums. Hover your mouse over an album and click the down arrow that appears. You'll see a message letting you know that the photos in the album will be zipped up, and you'll be emailed a link to the archive -- you just need to click the Create Zip File button to continue.
Hope this might help someone...

I don't use Flickr nor Instagram however considering subscribing to one or the other, strictly amateur, no professional work. Difference? Any Preference?

I follow a few very talented professionals on Flickr.

I don't use Instagram but I do follow some people. I used Flickr as a secondary backup...I also use Picasa. I would suggest you just upload the best to Flickr and decide whether you want them to be public or private...Good luck...
